I got my first vaccine dose yesterday and if the side effects are any indication, I'm glad I never got the coronavirus. It's a bit of a doozy, even for me.

Anyway, while I was being lazy this morning, I heard a train whistle so I headed down to the tracks. I live about a mile from the former Orange Belt Railway tracks - now part of the CSX Clearwater Subdivision - and #6295 was pulling a short train north. I snapped this shot of the engine.

#6295 is a GP40-2 built in February 1980 by GM's Electro-Motive division for the Chesapeake and Ohio railroad as #4397, originally painted in the C&O's distinctive "Chessie System" paint scheme. These four-axle locomotives are commonly called "road switchers" and are used mainly to switch yards or pull short local trains along branch lines; they don't have the horsepower to pull main-line trains, except in groups of four or five. CSX has even begun outfitting several to operate via remote control. You'll know if you see one that has been modified this way as it will have yellow strobe lights above the cab on the angled bits of the roof.
