Crazy 'ol Ruff and TumbleThey never had kids, couldn't, but they had each other. It was a testament to the strength of their marriage that they didn't need children to hold them together like so many of their peers' arrangements.
This is partly in fault to reading Hitchups and making me all nostalgic and having me revisit this old couple.
They're a little older now from when I first drew them together here:
Looking back, their outfits have taken a slight turn for the worse (except Tumble's pants - they MUST be striped.
). I realized too late I forgot Ruffnut's marriage braids. Also, I meant to add Ruffnut's eyepatch. Tumble's a nice honest Fisherman, but Ruffnut spends her entire life hunting and fighting. Tumble's never tried to 'domesticate' her; she's his scarred, wild wife and he adores her for it.Ah, I was just being lazy with their clothes. It was the pose I was really trying out. And they both ended up with Big-Head Syndrome. :/
Hmm... pairing name for them? Rumble.

Ruffnut really -isn't- built for childbearing, is she. Sad, though....they both look quite sorrowful, and hmm, not tired but world-weary.
Since I've been unable to find much in the way of details on Viking culture without using "translate page", would you mind educating me on the marriage braids thing?

Yeah. Well, none of the 'girls' are. I figure they all grow into those 'Adult bodies' at some point, but Ruffnut never really makes it. You really think they look Sorrowful?! I was going for peaceful D:. I mean, neither really mind at this point that they can't have kids. Haha, oh well, I guess I failed on that account.
I get all my Viking information (or most of it) from The Viking Answer Lady . She is amazing. Basically, after a woman is married she wears her hair in these intricate braids and never has her hair loose in public from that day forward.

I always have trouble with 'big head syndrome' too... but I suppose I can sorta get away with it since that's how it works in the animation world

Those striped pants were inspired from Gobber and half the adult men on the island. Ah, Ruff and Tumble... having just one person being into a character or idea always inspires me to love them a little bit more.

Because Ruffnut's barren. It's actually a blessing in disguise for her. It took the pressure off for having kids (because you know ye olden days) and allowed her to focus on her own wants.

No Astrid can have kids. It depends which universe you're looking in. I like to keep canon/Hitchups the same with that ONE moment determing - Rumble still happens, Ruffnut still can't have kids in either, Alivia still works...

I think Thuggory would be the best match for her because her and Fishlegs just seem like the more "friends" than actual spouses, they aren't like Hiccup and Cami who basically screw all the rules altogether and do what they pretty much want.
