Description
First legitimate baby. Celebrate.Garik is Hiccup and Astrid's first son. He has a personality too but I'll explain that with his 'five yr old' picture. Right now he's just a naked, pink blob that sticks everything in his mouth and pees.
I debated on Hiccup's hair . He's around twenty here and he let it grow out a bit for status reasons/too busy to cut it. He put it in a pony tail so that Garik wouldn't spit up in it. Stoick is still technically chief but he's studying to take over. He gets some time to focus on family.
I don't know why he's naked. He might even not be! There could still be pants! I drew his frame and before I could draw clothes on it I started drawing shoulder-blades.
I have few Garik arts in the back, but I thought I would introduce him to you all slowly. My aversion to fan-characters makes me reluctant to release them in a huge dump. I feel weird doing this as is. I'll admit that it helps Hiccup takes up 90% of the picture.

Y'know, as much as I'm a 100% Hicrid shipper, it's extremely weird seeing you ship canon, when you usually ship anything but.
Does this cancel out Alivia?

Oh, I usually ship nothing as that is my preference. My one proactive shipping is HicCami because I love the dynamic of friends-to-lovers. However I am also a supporter of canon, so obviously I'll eventually have to work up to a Hicstrid relationship since Astrid is Dreamworks' proffered love interest and family movies don't question the ideals of 'one true loves'. Now that my AU verse is done I can get into my post-canon stuffs. That's the whole point of my Crossing the Line story - to work from canon into a believable future (for me).
It doesn't negate Alivia - she's Garik's older half-sister by 2 or 3 years. Astrid and Hiccup still have a falling out - they both need to mature a little before they can work as a couple. As a bog Camicazi wants an heir by the most reputable sire, which happens to be the first dragon rider and the only male who's earned her respect. It's before Hiccup marries Astrid and while they aren't together so there's no cheating going on. It's all kosher.

Nice to see canon Hiccup= and I'm glad I'm not the only one who is picturing Hiccup would let his hair grow long. His father has long, braided hair and I think Hiccup would, too. You got the anatomy (muscles and such) down really well. Garik's face is also very realistic.
And, finally, so nice to see some canon Hiccup with Astrid.
What inspired you with the name Garik.
Anyway, I'm assuming this is canon Hiccup since there's no back scar and a mention to Hiccup being the chief.

Arm anatomy is something I'm familiar with, if only because I have my own mondo arm muscles. I have a pretty good idea where the triceps bulge and what not - though I did get lazy with this anatomy.
The name Garik has to do with me taking liberties from Canon. It's Grimbeard the Gastly's original name before he took on the title Grimbeard due to occupation, reputation and growing a stellar beard. Hiccup fights with Grimbeard's favorite sword and he named his first born son after the man. Grimbeard did some horrid things but he lived long enough to develop his own sort of sagacity.

lol- proffered love interest- that was cute. Well, at this point we don't know how things'll turn out. There is a good chance of Hiccup and Astrid getting married, but nothing is for certain. This movie through in some curve balls, and they might do it in other movies, too. If they are smart, they won't rush into any relationship since the real focus of this story is supposed to be on Hiccup and Toothless and their friendship.
Interesting about Garik's name origin. I learn something new every day.

Oh, I think I know how things will turn out. It's a family-friendly movie and movies of those sort tend to lean towards the 'one true love' bid. They aren't going to put Hiccup with someone else or backpedal on the romance front (though that would be ideal). They want to give the message that Only-One-And-Only's do exist and they belong to the protagonist every time, no if, ands, or buts.
Just to make sure - Garik's name origin is of my doing - under no circumstances did Cressida allude to Grimbeard having any other name than Grimbeard. Can't take credit for things that aren't true.

Wayall- I also wonder if HTTYD will be like Harry Potter or Toy Story that the audience will grow up with it, so by the last movie the kiddies will be in college. So the story may reflect themes for an older fan base. I'd like to see myself Hiccup and Astrid have to work a bit for each other's One and Only- and Astrid maybe have to really has to prove her feelings and devotion to Hiccup, especially if she has competition. I still think they might have her and Camicazi realize they are interested in the same person.
But none of that had better overshadow the dragon/human friendship.

Well, thanks for that. I really only plan on ever involving Garik and Alivia into writings; I would much rather focus on the characters from the movie. That's why I love the film after all

yes but you've introduced them and it would be rude not to tell a little bit more about them, like how Alivia's friends react to Hiccup when they're all 15-18 and how Alivia reacts to the fact that her friends may want to sleep with her father who looks her age and is possible that most of the time they are mistaken for siblings.
But do continue with your "Crossing the Line", the second edition was fun to read or you can continue with your Ruffnut fic and tell us how Astrid and Ruffnut compete for the heart of a certain one-legged hero.

Oh no, this is all canon verse stuff up here - Hiccup's waiting to be chief. Alivia exists in both worlds (she has a parallel self! ) but she's only a big half-sister in canon-world. What I meant was I would likely never write about Garik's younger brothers: [link]
The Ruffnut fic is finetoed - though I welcome anyone to continue with that speculation if they wish to. I do have my mind set more on canon-based stuff these days, while slowly dipping into Hitchups one-shots
