Description This is, what I believe, the hottest crack!ship in the HTTYD fandom.

I won't go into all the reasons again, I'm sure you'll find them sprinkled about in any of my other Thuggstrid doodles.

But they are hot, and passionate, and this is the kind of blood-pounding, angry, rewarding relationship I would want for Astrid. Even if it was only temporary.

Hiccup's all good and fine to settle down with.

But this is something I think she'd definitely need to get out of her system while she's still young and new to her rapidly expanding world.

I think sometimes that depictions of playful affection can be as good as/ better than those serious declarations of love. You got that down pat here. Happy!Astrid and Thuggory do make quite the pair.

Yes! Absolutely! Β Hollywood has taught us what 'I love you' means and what we "should" do to show someone we love them. But little acts like this are the true shows of affection. Β The personal comforts you only learn by truly getting to know someone.

So Thuggory is a Very Viking, but an intelligent one? I thought I would dislike him, as I haven't read the book where he appears, but maybe he's not so bad. You think that he and Astrid would be a better match than her and Hiccup? I can see that, since they're both Very Viking, and Hiccup is... whoever the hell knows what his designation would be.
Very hot drawing, even if it isn't a pair that I ship. Off topic here, but what do you think that those skulls on Astrid's skirt are made out of? And why the dangerous spikeys?

I may have influenced your thoughts of 'disliking' Thuggory with Hitchups. But in the books he's quite likable. He's a bit older than the other kids, but still willing to listen to Hiccup and his weird ideas… and he makes the other kids listen to Hiccup too. So he gets a thumbs up from a lot of readers. But he's still all a viking heir should be. I really really love the idea of him and Astrid together. Even if they don't last… kind of like Hiccup and Camicazi. Both great relationships, both very different in nature, neither lasting.

I think the skulls are made of chipmunks or something? I have no idea about the spikies though. FAshion statement probably XD

I really do need to catch up on the books, don't I? I like Thuggory from the description you've given me, since that matched what I'd been missing from Viking depictions.
Why do you think that Thugstrid would be transient? Camicazi and Hiccup's is obvious, but why wouldn't they last? Is it the distance and tribe separations?
Chipmunk skulls? Astrid's going all hardcore here. I saw a funny comic that involved the spikes. Hiccup did a "Slap the rear" maneuver. Astrid barely felt it, but Hiccup got a bloody hand for his trouble from the "Spikey and Armor."
If the ax fails against a dragon she could always hip check it. XD

Well Thuggory is the heir of the Meathead Clan. Astrid is a proud and loyal Hairy Hooligan. He'll beg her to marry him and become a Meathead but Astrid never will. Their relationship is less about deep, romantic love worth abandoning your home and pride for, and more about raw, addicting attraction you want to indulge in while it's there. Both of them are important forms of love to experience.

I remember that old comic! Wow - it was one of the earlier ones too. Ahh, the good old days.

Azulon24 In reply to AvannaK [2013-07-03 02:22:11 +0000 UTC]

If I may ask, do you mean the comment on love as an abstract for characters, or do you think that's developmentally healthy? I've never heard that before. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I'm sorry if I seem to be prying, but you seriously are one of the best conversationalists I've had the pleasure of messaging on the Internet.
I hear about the good old days, and bemoan the fact that I didn't see the movie until early 2012. I didn't know what I was missing. Ah well, making up for lost time now!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AvannaK In reply to Azulon24 [2013-07-03 02:53:48 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind at all! That's not prying. Actually, I'm not sure I understand your question fully but I'll try to answer what I think you asked.

There are some people you just want to roll around in bedsheets with all day, and there are some people you just want to talk to forever, and there's some people who's hand you just want to hold as often as possible, but often those people don't overlap.

There's this stupid stupid notion that everyone has a One True Love out there… someone who will fulfill everything you desire. It's terrible. Because if you find someone who can fulfill any of these, someone who can make your stomach swoop, hold onto them for as long. Love is as versatile as people are and there's too many combinations out there to experience to foolishly pass them by or foolishly hold onto them. So of course it's developmentally healthy.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Azulon24 In reply to AvannaK [2013-07-08 15:35:15 +0000 UTC]

Well, you implied that it was developmentally necessary to experience all of these, as opposed to the abstract "all are good". I may have misunderstood there.
Yeah, I agree with your take on the OTL. My parents never regaled me with tales of happily-ever-afters. My mother put it like this, that there are many many people who could be a good match, and that there was no such thing as one perfect one. Waiting for the OTL is futile, since there will be disappointments and shortcomings on both sides. That's love/life. I just hope that I can remember that if/when I enter a relationship. XD
We can appreciate Disney, but it's a pretty lousy model for a relationship.
Also off-topic, or maybe back on, it just occurred to me that the depiction of Astrid in this artwork that we're commenting on is one of the most attractive renderings I've seen you do of her. Just how it played out.

He is and he isn't. Thuggory is a great example of a Viking like Snotlout, and they share some of the same "very viking" qualities, but there are too many differences to call them "very alike". Thuggory listens to Hiccup, he's a fair bit older and more mature, and he doesn't have any of Snotlout's doofiness.

freezandcn In reply to AvannaK [2013-03-02 14:50:55 +0000 UTC]

Wonderful. I think Hiccup can be the leader, and the other Vikings can be his Capable partners. And I think Snotlout will finally become mature one day,and to find his own way to brought him glory.

Astrid looks so peacefully happy in a very natural way. I love it!

I just see/think of something I like and I gotta run with it. And these two are a hot item in my mind.

I also wish they were cannon... or something. Or, what if Cressida just gives Dreamworks a giant middle finger and writes in Thuggory getting married to a character named Astrid.

My god that would be perfect.

I think Astrid would be very content here. She wouldn't feel like she has to change, or hold back, or give up any of the things/behaviors she used to because Thuggory gets what she's about. They would be a Viking power couple.

It WOULD be perfect-- haha! Viking Power Couple. I LOVE that idea!

Thing is that in the Hitchups universe Astrid has a HUGE bone to pick with Thuggory, so I don't know how the two would get together unless he does major groveling. So this would be if Thuggory were not his Hitchups counterpart?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AvannaK In reply to JayaLaw [2013-03-01 01:00:06 +0000 UTC]

Oh, this works as a Hitchups counterpart too. There is cockiness and clashes and angry attraction. You ever just dislike someone so much, and a part of it is because you're attracted to them? Which makes you want to hate them even more? That pretty much happens with Astrid. Astrid has a thing for guys who frustrate her to no end, apparently.

I mean, she is PISSED that he took HER dragon and that their scheme almost got them killed, but she also understands their actions. She doesn't like them, but she thinks like a much as they do, so what we, the audience, or Hiccup, the protagonist created to resonate better with the audience, would think as stupid or cruel, she can understand.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JayaLaw In reply to AvannaK [2013-03-01 01:10:25 +0000 UTC]

No, that phenomenon has never happened to me. Poor Astrid, XD

I don't know, I've have to see an interaction between Thuggory and Astrid to believe in this ship Hitchups wise. He would have to work hard to earn her forgiveness as well as Chip's, given the changes and his near reversion to wildness.
