Oh, wow, that's raunchy.
So, Tumble is who Ruffnut marries in my head. I know, I know, OC/Cannon sucks, but I sure wasn't going to have her with Fishlegs...eeh I'm not going to get into that, because then I'll be in a downward spiral of whoknowswhat. And I have plans for her other cannon option.
Long story short, this is the lesser of two evils in my mind...and it's more realistic. She's seventeen, he's twenty-four. Their parents did the deal but he asked for her. Everyone watched on, shaking their heads. Luckily, he's a bit of a masochist, so it'll all work out. They get to know each other through their marriage.
I was originally going to name him Juggernut...but then I thought 'that's too many nuts!' even though you can never have too many nuts . But then Tumble made even more sense. And it's Ruff and Tumble...get it? Get it?
If Ruffnut would be with any of the cannon guys, I think Snotlout works better in kind of a 'I'm boinking my brother's best friend' kind of way. Yeah, we've all heard the argument "Snotlout seems more obvious, that's why we do Fishlegs!" Then y no one do that? Quality over quantity peoples. Not that there's any proof of Lout and Tuff being bros, but they just seem to have the natural dynamic of "Dude, where's my car?" already there. Daaghghstopstopstopstop.

<3 Thank goodness! There are other people out there who don't just kindof automatically put Fishlegs with Ruff. I mean...just...no! He needs some meek (-ish, these *are* vikings after all) girl who can be impressed by his manliness, not someone who'll quite possibly kill him the moment he manages to work up the courage to try anything >.<
Just my opinion, but yeah.

Yeah...the Ruffcup thing is more than just the lazy-man's pairing to me, I don't see the plausibility. Opposites attract doesn't even apply. There's nothing about Fishlegs that would attract Ruffnut to him, and even if she DID have a fetish for spineless stuttering, he wouldn't go for her. People jump on that 'Ruffnut's pretty' thing for Fishlegs a lot, which is kinda lame and empty. And sad for him. I really just feel sorry for both characters when they're mushed like that.
Anyway, it's nice to see someone who shares my views in a way.
Tumble here...well, he regards Ruffnut with caution and curiousity, but he's always had an open attraction for the wild.

I love this so much! This is fantastic, and I agree I can't really see Ruffnut with Fishlegs or Snotlout, I made her an OC as well only because I would see her relationship with one of the other teens as a kind of 'consolidation prize' for being unwanted by Hiccup, but I do tolerate the shippings, and I have nothing against HiccupxAstrid. And I like that it's really realistic and 'Rough and Tumble' that's so sweet and so genius!

Oooh, I'm so glad! It seems we have similar ideas on Ruffnut's character and people's penchant for turning her into the leftover girl.
When I came up with Tumble's name I had them in mind as adults, and the kids of the village knowing them as ol' Ruff and Tumble.

Definitely! I love fantasising and writing up Ruffnut's happy ending, probably because I'm biased since she's my favourite character, although I prefer yours because it's realistic, to the time and her character, and more historically accurate - I still need a lot of polishing because my fanfics aren't done nearly as well.

Well, at least Ruff looks happy and in control - which is most important. To be honest, I don't much care about what happens to Astrid. She wasn't in the books and in the movie, she rubbed me the wrong way. She actually reminded me a little TOO much of a modern-day girl to the point in which even her clothes looked out of place on her. She should have been wearing a dress or something... meh.
Still, can't wait for the next chapter! ^^

Yeah, Astrid seems to have made a habit of rubbing people the wrong way. I think she was portrayed more modernly for the purpose of relating to the audience (since, she was obviously going to be the love interest). Hopefully, I'll keep her in a more 'olden times' mentality

I mean, I can understand him liking her, but I really cannot see them being in a relationship together. I actually feel it's a bit insulting to both characters when they're paired up. "Oh, hai Ruffnut, we got two boys for you...we're giving you the nerdier one because he needs some love and you are his exact opposite so you'll be good for him"
Or poor Fishlegs, "You scream like a bitch and ramble like a nimrod whenever you encounter anything remotely scary. We're giving you the only other girl available because she'll terrify you enough to man-up."

My dispassion for Rufflegs isn't all that burning, more like a growing annoyance. I need some pairing shades, that's what I need.
This fandom does have that "crazy" vibe, doesn't it? I don't think it helps that Dreamworks made such great characters, but didn't quite flesh them out enough. Leaves much open to interpretation, it does

^THAT is what I think.
The lack of fleshability makes people crazy over interpretable pairings.
WHY Dreamworks!? You better do something with the cartoon or sequel and get a hold of these characters
but by then it's too late, every one has run the characters through the wringer and embedded their versions in the mind.
I'm predicting a whole bunch of Denials when Astrid breaks up with Hiccup in order to be with Fishlegs come 2014

I actually rather like the idea of Ruffcup - both the unrequited version and the reluctant acceptance version. It's good to shake things up every now and then

I like the idea of creating an OC for Ruffnut who would wind up fitting with her personality. The Rough and Tumble angle is cute. The arranged marriage anle is more historically accurate, and I do believe many of those people did come to fall deeply in love with each other. The notion of romantic love was non existent, instead you had a different sort of deep friendship and partnership that grew over time.
This should be a fun story to read!

Thanks! I was surprised how she came out, myself. I've been nailing the girls recently...in a strictly non-lezzy way.
Her hair was a heavy updo with braids (marriage style, I was attempting), but then I was like 'she just has waaay too much hair for her neck to support all that', so in another layer I added a ponytail braid and ended up liking it!
Ruff and Tumble are friendly enough to begin with (personality quirks aside) and they do end up loving each other over time. Less of the fireworks/passionate love people like to write about, and more of the deep, understanding, comfortable love. He's poppin' up next chapter with our long overdue look inside Berk

Nice... here's to the deep/understanding/comfortable love! It does not get enough fanfic love. btw- you realize that your Hitchups HIccup and Toothless have this deep/understanding/comfortable love as well, but theirs is a bromance- love between brothers. I like to believe that love is just as powerful as the traditional marriage love. It's based solely on the deep understanding, and that is an important element in a good friendship. Glad that Ruff will feel a love like that in her life, though with her, it will be with a marriage soul mate.

I completely agree with you on love. Of course, I also believe humans aren't meant to be monogynous and that marriage is simply a cultural thing. I don't think love is something that can be summed up in a contract. It's something that comes in different intensities in different manners between different people, but no type is more powerful than the other. Brothers or lovers, it's all good
