Description
A doodle of a scene from my fic "Hitchups":/"Guh—!" Hiccup got out as the wind was knocked from him. He didn't have the breath to cry out as a gummy, dank maw clamped over the sides of his head. Saliva dampened his hair and even with a blotted vision Hiccup knew his head was currently in a dragon's mouth.
Hiccup began to push at Toothless' snout as he heard: ::I just bit your head off. I win::
Toothless thought the cease in Hiccup's struggles was clear a sign of submission and began to count another triumph to his favor. That is, until he felt familiar nails scratch under his chin and he blacked out into bliss.
Moments later his bearings returned to him, and Toothless found himself rapidly blinking his eyes to the sight of Hiccup rubbing his sleeves over the soggiest parts of his hair.
"That was gross," Hiccup grumbled when he noticed Toothless looking at him.
::That was cheap::/
Boys will be boys! Don't worry, his teeth are retracted
And that's a rip in Hiccup's shirt. Toothless got a little overzealous.

...I love the overwhelming amount of DX in Hiccup's face, when you can't even see his eyes. And Toothless just looks so pleased with himself. For a first time drawing him, you actually did a really good job with the beastie. I personally still can't get his proportions right (I should eventually actually scan and upload my httyd art fff), but I've never been good at critters. .__.;

Critters are my problem too. This one involved a lot of side-by-side referencing. And twisting the paper about a lot. And erasing. Truth.

Thanks for the kind words. That was the impression I wanted to make. He's capable of a lot of things, but his community is so fixated on way of doing things so he never gets a chance to prove himself. Toothless gives him confidence to be himself for the first time. I also went with the Art book for the movie that said he actually is the height and build of a normal teenage boy- most of 'em are very thin, you have to admit. But since everyone else around him is so epically brawny and tall (my view because they eventually developed that physique over time since people with that build survived to adult), Hiccup looks tiny and weak. But he's really not.

Amen to that. Actually, most guys who are muscular and young usually have a solid layer of fat around all that by the time they're in their forties. And you can see that with the adults in berk. They may be large and strong, but they continue to lose definition as they age. Conversely, "scrawnier" young men usually bear a more desirable physique later in life. I guess Hiccup will be the first testament to that
