Description

Name: Aetisia Eleutherias

Born: May 11, 512; Constantinople, Byzantine Empire

Died: May 26, 610; Constantinople, Byzantine Empire (age 98)

Allegiance: Assassins

Bio: A descendant of the Roman Assassin, Aquila, whose descendants moved eastward to Constantinople during the reign of Constantine I, Aetisia was practically destined to stumble her way into the Assassin Brotherhood eventually.  Nonetheless, she started out with zero knowledge of the Assassins or their Templar foes.  She was born in Constantinople to a Blue Faction chariot-racer at the city's hippodrome and his wife whom worked at a local brothel.  Due to her parents’ careers, she was introduced at an early age by a lovely young girl named Theodora, who often babysat the little Aetisia.  Theodora traveled to Africa when Aetisia was 5, however, and didn't return to Constantinople for another 7 years.  Nonetheless, she still kept in close contact with the little girl, even when Theodora found herself marrying into royalty when she was wed to Justinian, who would become emperor two years later, in 525.

In 527, Aetisia’s mother was tragically raped and then murdered by a mysterious group of men whom Aetisia’s father seemed to know about but was also dodged the subject whenever it was brought up.  Theodora, feeling bad for her young friend, helped ensure that Justinian's laws protecting women and severely punishing rapists were passed.  This helped Aetisia’s grief for a while, but in 230, her father died in a tragic chariot accident during a race at the Hippodrome.  Aetisia now found herself not only struck with grief but also with the stress of running her mother's brothel.  In her quest for self-healing, she discovered that neither of her parents’ deaths were random.  Both were deliberate attacks on her family by the order to whom her mother's killers belonged to.  Looking for answers, she discovered the Assassins and her heritage with them.  They explained that their enemies the Templars, a group conspiring against Justinian to control the Empire, were the people who killed her parents.  Aetisia accepted their offer to train her in their ways, and she began her journey to destroy all the Templars that plagued their lands.

The Assassins knew the Templars had been planning something big for years, but it only began in 532, when the Templars purposefully influenced the Blue and Green Factions to start the chaos known today as the Nika Riots.  They had hoped to replace Justinian with their puppets, Hypatius and Pompeius.  Aetisia, having been invited to the Imperial Palace by Theodora shortly beforehand, helped convince Justinian to stay in the capitol during the mess in order to win favor with the people.  Aetisia set out into the streets and she killed Hypatius and Pompeius.  The riots eventually settled, and the Imperial family was in the debt of the Assassins.

Justinian began to have the city rebuilt, including the famous Hagia Sophia church, which was completed in 537.  While Theodora and Aetisia’s Assassin allies were in complete cooperation, Justinian seemed to be receiving influence from their enemies as well, mainly in his expansionist policies and his intolerance towards religions other than Christianity.  Aetisia discovered that the influence was mainly coming from the local Templar Grand Master, John the Cappadocian, who was renowned for his lust for power and attention.  In 541, Theodora and her ally General Belisarius, arranged for a meeting with John, hoping to give the Assassins a chance to ambush him.  Aetisia tried and failed to kill him, and the Templar escaped.  He fled to a church, but Aetisia and the Imperial Army managed to catch him.  Justinian had the Templar removed from office and banished to Cyzicus.  It was thought that he would do no harm there, but he ended up causing more and more trouble, getting him exiled again to Antinoe.  Theodora tried her best to get the man on trial for murder, but the citizens of Cyzicus wouldn't testify against the tyrant in fear of their lives.  Things only got worse when Theodora died of cancer in 548, and Justinian was left wide open for Templar corruption.  John was recalled to Constantinople, and Aetisia decided she needed to take matters into her own hands and avenge her lost friend.  She hunted John the Cappadocian down, and she assassinated him.

As the years went on, Aetisia and the Assassins were forced to cut their ties with Justinian, as the Templars now had him as their puppet.  A Templar scholar named Procopius often tried to slander Belisarius, getting him falsely tried for corruption in 562.  Aetisia killed Procopius for this, but it was not enough for Belisarius to be saved from Justinian having him blinded and sent helplessly onto the streets.  Aetisia, having enough of this nonsense tyranny, set her sights on ending the life of the emperor, which she did in 565.  He was succeeded by his nephew, Justin II, but the new emperor proved even worse than the last, famed for fits of insanity that drove him to try and eat his own staff alive.  By 574, the government found they had no choice but to remove him from office and have the Empire be run by regents Tiberius and Sophia.  Aetisia, feeling bad for the poor lost mind of Justin, ended his suffering with a swift flick of her blade in 578.  Tiberius became the next emperor, and amended the mistakes of his predecessors by aligning himself with the Assassins’ goals.  Later came emperors Maurice and Theodosis from 582 to 602, though by that point Aetisia had retreated to her books in her Mentor’s office due to her old age wearing down on her.  She was bedridden by 610, just as the new emperor Phocas took the throne and she received reports of a potential ally named Muhammad preaching new teachings in the Middle East.  She passed away peacefully in her sleep, leaving those issues to be addressed by all her students in the Brotherhood.

She is an ancestor of Ava Arlie.

And wouldn't they just join the Templars then since the Templars were the ones backing the Byzantines? XD I mean that's why Vali left the Brotherhood afterall

I love this a lot. The color of her hoodie is real nice.

At the same time, this is a time when both Assassin, and Templar SHOULD be working together, to save Western Rome, and stop the Dark Ages, but both are too consumed with their conflict to do anything about it, save for the PCs and their allies. Though in the end, their efforts are ultimately futile. Rome is sacked and the Empire falls.

Ah I love your OC, her outfit is so cool and it fits the Byzantine Empire so well!! The colors of her robe and armour is so cool. Not to mention, I love the setting and the time period. The Byzantine Empire under the reign of Justinian and his wife Theodora. It's widely agreed among Historians that while his polices towards the end of his reign are bad, he was a good ruler, but most all he was a good man. You, we have no idea how much he loved his wife, which leads some to belive that when he just gave up on life when she died, that he gave up on his dreams to rebuild the Roman Empire, that he just wanted to see her again.

It definitely shows, great job dude, great job!!!
That's facts, Theodora basically led the Byzantine Empire when the plague infected the entire empire and her husband Justinian. Not to mention the love between Justinian and Theodora was so strong and passionate, which is why most belive that Justinian just gave up on life when she died. I have a feeling that when your OC went to kill him, that he probably just told her to do it, that he didn't even fight back. That he just wants to see Theodora again.

That does seem like a logical way that scene would go.  They'd both be old and tired and would just want it to be over with.

I don't really have any plans to write any stories using Aetisia, though the second arch after Project Thunderbird is still a work in progress and a lot is subject to change
