Description

A reference sheet for another main character in the historical storyline in my AC fanfic, “Nothing Less”. Good old Aveza Deryn all grown up as the Mentor of the Canadian Assassins long after her starring role in my other fanfic, “Anthem”. ^^ It's actually pretty fitting to upload this today. I just now realized it's the 202nd anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans XD

Bio: Aveza Deryn was born and raised in a pleasant little neighborhood in York, Upper Canada. Her father a British merchant and her mother hailing from the Shawnee tribe, Aveza was introduced to several different cultures right from the start. She lived a happy, peaceful life amongst her loved ones until one tragic day in 1806, when a group of soldiers came to their home and arrested her father on made-up charges. They hanged him the next morning, a shocking event to little Aveza and her mother. The two immediately fled town, and her mother took her all the way to the Davenport Homestead in Massachusetts. It was here that Aveza was introduced to Connor, and where many secrets were revealed to her. Her parents were members of the Assassin Brotherhood, she discovered, and her father had been hanged by their enemies, the Templars. Upon learning this, Aveza immediately joined the Brotherhood in hopes of carrying on her father's legacy.

Most of her early work revolved around assisting the continent’s various Native tribes fight against the rapidly expanding forces of the United States. She fought in the Battle of Tippecanoe alongside her newfound friend, Arnold Bellamy, in 1811. Soon after she met Tecumseh, who showed her a Precursor temple hidden near Prophetstown. Now on a quest to find the Key to the Temple, Aveza and her fellow Assassins soon had to face the challenge of the War of 1812. Aveza helped fight off the American Templars throughout the War, fighting in many famous battles like the Battle of Queenston Heights and the Battle of New Orleans. Eventually, she retrieved the Key in 1815, and alongside her mother, Connor, and Arnold (who by then had become her lover) she returned to the Temple. After a fierce confrontation with the Templars Andrew Jackson and William Henry Harrison, she opened the Temple door and found a message from the Precursor Gabriel hidden inside. After returning to her friends, she discovered that Jackson and Harrison had escaped and took the Key with them. And thus she set her sights on retrieving it once again.

Aveza’s post-war life was quite active. In 1815, she recovered an Apple of Eden from the Templars at sea (Though Connor immediately had her toss it into the ocean after they experienced some of its “effects”). In 1821, she helped Connor establish a new permanent Assassin base in Indianapolis after the loss of the Davenport Homestead in 1814. Later that year, she piloted the Aquila out to the Saskatchewan River in order to stop a Templar plot involving the rivalry between the Hudson’s Bay Company and the North West Company. She also achieved the rank of Master Assassin that year. She and Arnold married in Montreal in 1822, and they had their first child in 1823 and their second in 1826, both daughters.

By 1831, Aveza had become the official Mentor of the Canadian Assassins. And with poor Connor's failing health, she often filled in for him in America as well, at least until he passed away. One of her first acts as mentor was to rescue a journalist named Ludger Duvernay from prison in 1832, recruiting him into the Brotherhood in order to combat the Templars that took the form of the Château Clique in Lower Canada.

In the US, the 1830s saw the reign of Andrew Jackson as president, and thus a new threat consumed Aveza's time. She travelled to Indiana in 1833 to assist the locals, and there she met Priscilla Abbott, a little girl whom she'd soon take on as her apprentice, one of her best students at that. In 1837, she was called back to her home country to assist with Rebellions occurring in Upper and Lower Canada. In 1841, she travelled to Washington DC, where she fatally poisoned William Henry Harrison. Four years later, she killed Andrew Jackson, at last retrieved the Temple Key, and put it in Priscilla’s hands so that she may guard it with her life.

Aveza continued to deal with various issues throughout Canada, the United States, and even England through the decades. In 1847, she received word that Ethan Frye had abandoned the already-weak Assassin Brotherhood in the UK, and so she travelled overseas to help get things stable before returning home in 1848. Years later, she helped keep things in check when the Canadian Confederation began forming in 1867. However, her old age made things more and more difficult as the years passed, and she was bedridden by 1870. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side that year, dying with the gratitude of being able to have the adventurous and overall pleasant life that she did.
