Description Most of us, when we hear about Piracy in the Caribbean, we imagine peg-legged, eye-patched Criminals with a murderous Appetite that can only be quenched by Blood and Rum. But that's not entirely the Case. Most History Books completely leave out the human Element of these People, censoring any historical Facts that favored the Pyrates, proving once again that it's all about Perspective. Most Pyrates, including the some of the most famous ones like Edward “Blackbeard” Thatch, Mary Read, and Benjamin Hornigold, started their Lives at Sea as Privateers for the British Navy. From 1702 to 1715, England was caught up in the War of Spanish Succession, against Spain and France. But when this War ended, these Privateers suddenly had no Employment, and since they came from lower Classes, they had no real Means of supporting Themselves or their Families. And so in order to stay alive, they were forced to turn to Piracy in order to make Money and get Medicines and all that. All because their Government had left them to die.

Such was the Case with a young Lad from Wales named Edward Kenway, a Sheep Farmer who married a lovely upper class Lady named Caroline Scott. Caroline chose to ditch her dreadful Family and gladly adopted Edward's lower class Lifestyle. But this filled Edward with Guilt, as he only wanted the best for his Wife. This eventually led to him taking to the Sea (although the Threat from a mysterious evil Order to leave and only return when rich also motivated him) as a Privateer. But when the War ended, he was forced to turn to Piracy, and alongside Blackbeard and Hornigold, he took to his new Life with a heavy Heart and great Ease.

In 1715, he encountered a Man named Duncan Walpole, who was on his way to Havana to meet with Governor Laureano de Torres y Ayala. Hoping to get a Sum of Money, Edward killed Walpole and disguised himself as him. Hitching a Ride with Stede Bonnet, a kind Gentleman who would eventually make his way into Pyrate Infamy, he met the Governor and his Associates in Havana. Edward discovered that Torres and his Allies, Pyrate-Hunter Woodes Rogers and Julien du Casse, were Templars, and they were hunting for a Sage named Bartholomew Roberts, since they knew he was the Key to a grand Prize called the Observatory. Eventually, Edward was tired of not getting his Money quick enough, so he set out to claim the Observatory as his own to sell. The Templars discovered his Deception and had him arrested and shipped away on the infamous Treasure Fleet. Edward, with the Help of an ex-Slave named Adéwalé and a few escaped Convicts, escaped the Fleet right before a Hurricane sunk it, and they secured a ship which Edward dubbed the Jackdaw.

Edward returned to Nassau, the City that served as the Pyrate Republic’s Capital, a Place where Men and Women of all Races and Creeds could live their Lives freely and equally. All his Friends except James Kidd laughed off his Tale of Sages and Observatories. Kidd eventually introduced Edward to the local Assassin Brotherhood, of whom James was a Member. They told him that the Assassins were in a Race to claim the Observatory too, albeit to hide it instead of sell it. After Edward helped the Templars, the Assassins were unwilling to trust him. Although James, who revealed herself to actually be Mary Read in Disguise, gave him a Shot at Redemption. Edward took out several Templars, such as du Casse and a Slaver named Laurens Prins, though his Goal was still to earn Money to support his Friends and Family.

In 1718, many at Nassau fell ill, and so Blackbeard set out to South Carolina in hopes of bartering for Medicines. The local Government would not deal with what they saw as Scoundrels, however, and so Edward was forced to retrieve the Medicines himself. Around this Time, the King of England put out a Pardon for any Pyrates who would take it. Woodes Rogers was sent as a Negotiator for this, telling the Pyrates to take it or face Death. Many considered taking it, including Blackbeard and Hornigold, who had grown worn and tired from living in Poverty and Filth for Years on end. Others, like Charles Vane, actively sought to oppose it and sabotage the British Army’s Plot to massacre the Town. Blackbeard eventually settled in North Carolina, where he planned to retire. However, the British Army ambushed him anyway and brutally murdered him, as well as a good Chunk of the Town. Edward, depressed by the Loss of his Friend, continued his Search for the Sage and Observatory. He, along with Charles Vane and Calico Jack Rackham, sailed out to find the Sage, but Rackham betrayed them and left them stranded on a deserted Island. Edward escaped, leaving behind a now-insane Vane, and returned to his Home on Great Inagua.

Eventually, Edward met the Sage again at Principe in 1719. Roberts had gathered up a hefty Crew for himself, beginning his Career as “Black Bart” Roberts, the most successful and infamous Pyrate in the entire Golden Age. Roberts agreed to help Edward find the Observatory, though they met a fair share of Opposition. Benjamin Hornigold had turned to the Templars, betraying his Friends and becoming a famed Pyrate-Hunter. Edward was forced to assassinate his old Friend before joining Roberts at the Observatory, which they found was an ancient Precursor Device used to spy on certain Individuals if a Blood Sample was given. Roberts betrayed Edward however, handing him over to the Templars and having him thrown into a Jamaican Prison for two Years.

Mary Read and Anne Bonny, the famed Pyrate Duo, were thrown into the same Prison not long before, and would've been hung immediately were it not for them pleading their Bellies. During his Time in Prison, Edward had learned the terrible Fates of his other Friends. Stede Bonnet had been hung in North Carolina in 1718, dying with Tears in his eyes as he begged for the Safety of his Family. Jack Rackham, after passing out drunk in the same Battle that saw the Capture of Mary and Anne, had been captured and hung in 1720, his Body left to rot in a rusty Cage for all to see. The mad Charles Vane had been tossed in Jail as well.

Edward eventually escaped in 1721 with the help of the Assassin Mentor, Ah Tabai, and they set out to help the Girls as well. Anne made it out alive, but Mary tragically died due to Maltreatment and lack of medical Aid after Childbirth. This sent Edward into a sPyraling Pit of Depression and Booze. All his Friends had either abandoned him or died because of his Greed, and he knew he had to make Amends. He returned to the Assassins, offering to join them in their Fight for what truly matters: Love, Liberty, all that good Stuff. He killed Bart Roberts and sent Woodes Rogers bleeding back to England. And in 1722, the Assassins confronted Torres in the Observatory. Edward assassinated him, and thus freed the Caribbean from Tyranny once and for all.

A new Attitude and a new Purpose, Edward set his Sights for England after learning that his Wife had died of Smallpox and that he had a Daughter he never knew about. Donating all his Pyrate Resources to the Caribbean Assassins and saying a heartfelt Goodbye, he sailed back overseas after meeting his Daughter, Jenny, on Great Inagua. Edward tied up loose Ends at home, gained a Pardon from Sir Robert Walpole, and used his newfound Wealth to aid the British Assassins and start a new Family. He married a young Lady named Tessa, and the two had a Son named Haytham. Things were well and happy until 1735, when the Templars led an Attack on their Home, killed Edward, kidnapped Jenny, and tricked Haytham into joining their Order.

So yeah. Things were definitely rough during these Times, but not in the Way you usually think. History is rarely so black and white, and the Truth may be surprising when you look beyond the Blindfold of historical Censorship. The Pyrates were People like you and me, and while dirty and rough, they mostly just wanted to survive the next Day, and live their Lives freely and happily alongside whatever Friends and Family they had. Unlike the Governors and Pyrate-Hunters, many of which were a bunch of rich Slave-Owners looking out for Themselves and just Themselves. But for a short Time, the Assassins helped put a Stop to it. And they'd continue to operate in the Caribbean for Years to come. Because the Cry for Freedom can never, and will never, be silenced.

(Before I can continue, I'm from Brazil and I use the Google Translator write the comments, because I don't write english very well. So, because of that, sorry...)

I said that you ''Overcame'' yourself in this drawing, and not ''got over''...

Ah okay, I understand.  No problem.  I know how unreliable Google Translate is lol

I am still a bit confused though, since both "overcome" and "got over" indicate I was having some big moral dilemma that I had conquered somehow.
