Description Been trying to get back into the swing of things I've had major art block lately and I feel bad for not posting as much on here.  I have a lot of AC stuff I could post but like I said, I wanna try to focus more on my own personal projects now that they exist.  And I'm finally on anxiety medication so that's been a huge help to my mental state.  Art block just sucks is all XD But I managed to drag myself out of it enough to work on more Folk Hero stuff, so here's a reference sheet for my girl Grace.

------------

Grace MacKenneth was born on March 25, 1791, on the edge of the frontier that would soon come to be called Indiana.  She was born in the relatively bustling city of Vincennes, along the Wabash River.  Her mother's name was Wenonah, who had originally come from a band of Shawnee folks from Virginia before being forced to move westward after Lord Dunmore's War and the American Revolution.  Grace never knew who her father was for sure, being born out of wedlock, but her top pick from the list of potential fathers was always the same: her Uncle Wallace, an old Scottish settler who cared for and supported Grace and Wenonah with all his heart.  Growing up, Grace idolized these two.  She loved hearing the stories her mother would always tell her before bedtime, both from her own cultural heritage and ones from across the pond.  Her personal favorite was always the story of Cinderella.

The other people Grace looked up to while growing up were the neighboring Matthew family, who were originally escaped slaves from North Carolina who sought freedom in anti-slavery Indiana.  Their daughter was a shy but forward girl named Miriam, and she kicked off a strong relationship with Grace right off the bat.  The two were inseparable, even when Grace tended to drag Miriam into trouble along with her.  Whenever Wenonah and Wallace were out, the Matthews would babysit her at their place.  And it was while she was staying with the Matthews that she got the horrible news one terrible day in 1794.

Wallace returned to Vincennes from an expedition to aid the Shawnee leader Blue Jacket in a battle against the American governor, Anthony Wayne.  However, he was short one leg, and he limped into town with the bloodied corpse of Wenonah in his arms.  Grace was devastated, and it was event that changed her for the worst.  She became more introverted, rebellious, and depressed as she grew older.  With Wallace now crippled, responsibility for hunting and supporting the household fell to her.  The local townsfolk, many of which were supporters of the new agovernor, William Henry Harrison, bullied and teased her both for her heritage and her outward appearance.  Grace's only respites were the households of Wallace and the Matthews, where she felt like she could emulate her mother by getting dressed up and feeling like the respectable lady that none of the locals would treat her like.

It wasn't until 1811 that things started to take another turn for Grace.  After a series of particularly depressing mishaps around town, she was approached by a mysterious but kind old woman who offered to hire her as a bodyguard for a journey northward she was going to take.  Feeling it would be a good chance to get away for a little, Grace accepted and escorted the woman up the Wabash River, to the headquarters of the Confederacy of the great Native American leader Tecumseh.

Here, Grace felt a connection to not just her own heritage but those of the many other tribes that dotted the frontier.  And after proving her loyalty and strength in the Battle of Tippecanoe, Grace eventually found herself being invited to Thunder Mountain far to the west.  Upon arriving, she was faced with ever increasingly mystical trials, until she found herself in a glittering chamber underneath the mountain peak.  There lied a giant bird with eyes of lightning, chained to the ground, and the giant snake that held it prisoner.  Grace helped free the bird and defeat the snake, and as her reward she was confronted again by the old woman, who called herself Kokumthena.  They were transported to another realm, situated above a giant turtle, and Kokumthena revealed herself to be the creator deity of the Shawnee people, and that she chose Grace as her next prophet that could help her defend the people of the frontier from the expanding American settlers and the evil spirit that had taken residence amongst their ranks.  Grace accepted this responsibility, and found herself fighting two Wars in the next coming years.  Firstly between the Natives, British, and Americans during the War of 1812, and secondly between the mythological forces that had been shaping the continent of Turtle Island for centuries.  And through this journey, Grace would find herself once more.
