Description

It feels weird calling this a WIP, because I'm mostly finished, but this is technically not finished and I hope to finish it soon. People might question the reason for posting it at all if it's not finished and all I can say is...yeah, okay. To me it serves as motivation to post the whole thing faster, not sooner, but...it doesn't always work out that way.

I both like and hate this design. It's somewhat based on the short-snouted caiman, in my attempts to give Godzilla both more crocodillian and aquatic traits, but without compromising his classic shape and look. I also wanted to experiment with the dorsal plates, and the overall scaly look of the body, and I'm reasonably satisfied with it (still having inking trouble, though, I'm not where I want to be with that stuff yet). The finalize look, though, doesn't exactly smack to me as caiman-like, even if I like the overall head shape, and how there are some crocodillian traits that DID make it in, like a flattened rudder-like tail, and how it's segmented like many crocodillian species have; and a lot of the scale patterns are based off of different members of the family, like alligators and crocodiles...and initially, I was okay with the idea that the legs would be smaller than they are usually depicted on other Godzilla designs, because maybe it would insinuate that Godzilla's ancestors were originally quadrupeds, and becoming bipedal was a fairly recent evolutionary thing for the species...but in retrospect I wish I'd made them bigger.

Overall, I don't hate it. But I wish I'd made some changes too. Oh well. It's a process.
