I say "final," but I'm not so sure.

For those who aren't aware, Sugon is one of several obscure Godzilla kaiju that was created specifically for a manga, and as far as I'm aware, they've never been seen in any other media. I've long wanted to do my own spin on these kaiju, and I finally got around to it. The upside to redesigning these kaiju is the exact same thing as its downside: the manga style made the designs very stylized and open to interpretation...so on the one hand, you can take your own stab at designing them and put your own spin on it...but at the same time, taking so many creative liberties might actually make it deviate further from whatever the kaiju was actually supposed to be. Which I hate to do. Some of the kaiju were easier to reinterpret than others, and stick to their original designs...Sugon was not one of them.

Sugon, I probably took the most creative liberties with, simply because I had to. It's not apparent what Sugon is and what it's based on, so I more or less had to just make a decision and live with it. Superficially, it has a lot of similarities with Hedorah, but I might have leaned into that a little bit more than I should have, so Sugon ends up maybe looking a bit derivative. There are a couple of instances where Sugon is also seen in the water, and while it's never implied as far as I can tell that it's an aquatic or amphibious kaiju, that's what I ran with. It doesn't have the fins or the jelly-fish like attributes, but since a lot of its design reminded me of sea creatures, that's what I pulled from for inspiration.

Overall, I actually like it. I just worry it's way, way removed from what it's supposed to look like. I might make other versions in the future, if I'm neurotic enough about it. And I inevitably am.
