Description

Did some more face concepts, but I really wanted to add some color, as I'm getting tired of non-photo blue. I'm not a fan of doing stuff purely in color-pencil any longer, but I did for the sake of swiftness, just to get some ideas out in front of me.

Frankly...none of them are what I'm imagining in my head. Color schemes are still a problem for me. However, each of them has something I like.

The ones on the left are modeled much closer to ghost designs you see in Japanese pop-culture, not just from movies like The Ring or The Grudge, but some other films, anime, manga, and folklore. I actually really like the idea of the Yokaiju having a color-scheme like the one at the bottom left...but it would need more than black and white and red. I don't want it to look like Godzilla is fighting something like a giant gangly panda.

The more monstrous designs on the right I deliberately leaned into more gross-looking skin colors. Neither really works for me by itself. One looks too snake-like, and the other really sells a jaundiced look, but it's too bright and colorful. I want something paler and sickly, but definitely dashes of each of these added in.

Anyway...this was kind of fun to do, even if it didn't end the way I wanted it to. Oh well...on and upward.
