Description

So this has been a weird design process. Still going on at the moment.

A little background:

I've always wanted to create a kaiju that ties into the more occult elements of Japanese horror. Something with clear supernatural connections to its folklore and, to a lesser degree maybe, to its horror movies, especially in the last few decades. I very much love the idea of Godzilla fighting something that is basically a giant version of something you might find in The Ring or The Grudge, etc. That's where the idea started, but it quickly diverted into looking into yokai and oni for inspiration. The name is a placeholder, but boy do I love saying "Yokaiju."

I really like the face in the upper right corner. It ended up not looking anything like this in the end, or at least in the most recent concepts, but I might try to turn it into its own monster. I hate to waste a sketch I like.
