Death was inevitable, he was told, when Mei Wah had died. Gone were the days when the sun broke through the misty clouds that drifted across the frozen azure sky, when the moon was suspended in its gravitational orbit, the days before his sister, his only remaining relative, had become one with the earth. Nootaikok was told that he would soon be comforted as time passed.

He could never forget.

Now time was tapping him on the shoulder, beckoning him to join those who had already left the world. Nootaikok lifted his weary eyes, almost blind, and stared at the gray wilderness he was in. Snow encrusted his eyebrows and lips, which cracked every time he moved them. He was to die out here, where everyone would forget him, but hopefully his remaining works which he was able to recover from the Emperor was safely tucked away in the underground library in Ba Xing Ce.

Time tapped him again.

Nootaikok drew his robe closer around him, and closed his eyes. There he stood, in the empty field of ice, and one by one, his ancestors appeared, touching his almost lifelss body. Another look revealed to him his sub-Spirits of the Ocean and Moon, Tui and La. They were beautiful creatures, still shimmering around his staff. He knew when he died, they would be freed from the seal that kept them there.

His spirit was now pluming in its flight, gracefully into the arms of Death. He sighed, a frosty mist that was soon encased in the bitter air of the South Pole, and stirred no more.

Ohhh, that was sad. Short story based on my OC, Nootaikok, a Water Tribe shaman. FULL VIEW PLEASE because while I did do this in pastel, I used computer manipulation to make them look like brush strokes, and you wouldn't be able to see it without it, 'cause in the preview it looks all blurry and messy.
