Description In Western China there is a lot of tradition as heavy industry has no yet pierced the soul of the country side. One of the traditional things that has lasted through all this time is the robust clothing. Mother or grandma still making them by hand (more or this with a coming photo) with bold colors and intricate needle work.

One thing you may notice is the edges are embroidered with colors and patterns, this is done by hand using a needle and hand dyed string. It takes several months to make clothes like this and it is very costly for outsiders to buy.

Sometimes you will find people that will use manufactured cloth to make clothes and quilts, but it can be expensive for the natives to trade for or buy.

what a clever way to express tradition. I like this a lot. The image came out very well and the girl's shy pose just cries out the asian way of living... as an asian born myself, "Yes we are shy creatures"

Beautiful and my deepest respect for the people who make such wonderful clothing. Also to the photographer for capturing not just a lovely bit of workmanship, but a sweet character wearing it.
