Description Made by

Ok I may get a bunch of flames and bashing for posting this but its true.

I don't feel like doing art trades with people that don't have good art :/

I work my ass off for 3-4 hours on a picture that took someone else like 1 hour to finish.

[link]
[link]

These are a few examples of NON decent art I'm talking about.

I don't accept Bases as an art trade and I don't accept scribbles as an art trade :/ It's as simple as that. That's why I refuse to do art trades with certain people... As mean as it is that's how I feel. Sorry guys

PLEASE feel free to put your opinion in on this. I'd really like to hear what you think about this

You're not exactly the best either, it's hard to find your standard when it comes to trades. It is a bit jerkish.

I used to accept all kind of level before but I had to 'raise' the requirement because most people just want free art and they gave me some half-decent work, like stroke and stroke....... and done

i have to agree for the most part *sigh* i dont really support bases since most the tiem they never ask to base the artwork anyway and a lot of people use ONLY bases...

i agree
i dont care about the time i only take 1-3 hours
but its if they tried that matters
so yes and no
if i know they tried their hardest i will
but if they use bases,
rush,
and dont try.
i wont do one.
;v; i usually accept to though //shot

I don't mind skill, but if I put hours of work into a picture, it'd be nice to get a picture that had effort put into it return.

Figures the people raging about this all have shitty art. Anyway, I kinda agree and disagree. Like I do agree that some people need to get off their high-horse and know that not everyone is going to be a master at art. On the other hand, I do agree that it's a bit unfair to ask someone who's extremely talented to draw you something and then only be able to give them crap in return, even if you did spend hours on it because you're not good at drawing. I think it's in cases like these, that it's better to save yourself some embarrassment and just commission the artist. That way, you get their lovely art, and they get money!

This is quite true.. harsh , but the truth can be at times.
I wouldn't want to do an art trade with some epicly awesome artist as much as it's... an honour.. I'd feel so ... small.
Unless of course, the person's cool with it.
Art trades are fun if both you and the other like each others art.
I've seen random people simply wanting to do art trades just to get free art.
That's not nice.
:<

Of course, "decent" can be in any way a person wishes to see it.
And about the time taken to finish art... well... I've seen really great artists spend a short amount of time but the outcome is godly. Blargh, although I understand why you used that as an example.

I too, never knew people would use bases to complete their part of the trade.

Pshh. Just realise that this stamp is 2 years old.
Wew.

Ok let me start off by saying that you are a fail because you do not think about how good a person is at drawing and you assume that they spent like 5 min on drawing, not everyone is as good as you so stop assuming that they don't spend time on it for instance look at my art, i take my time with it and some of it takes me around 1-3 hours and it is still quite bad art.

Never assume or it will make an ass out of you and me but in this case it is just you.

RegretZero [2012-04-13 00:59:26 +0000 UTC]

I find this more than a little offending, I think it perfectly portrays just how big of a d**chebag that you really are. I mean really. How can you define who worked hard on art and who didn't?

The simple and true answer is, you can't. Perhaps somebody had a bad day, or perhaps they just didn't do as well on a certain picture as another.

Seriously, rethink your post here.

Alrighty, well, I guess haters gonna hate... but I feel this is wrong.

Those two peices of art that you posted of "NON decent art" is pretty wrong. I can close to guarantee that those people you are talking about pour their heart and soul into their art, and they just don't have as much practice. Please, don't just assume people are scribbling down blobs when it isn't as vetran as your art.

You asked for opinions, so this is mine. It's not meant as a bash, it's meant as an 'as a new and unskilled artist, I find this a little offending.'

I can see people not wanting to do art trades with those who half-ass their "work" ...but I've also seen people be too high and mighty to straight out deny someone a trade because their work wasn't "at their level or higher" when the person asking wasn't at all bad at drawing...some people need to get off their high-horse, and give others a chance.

I've got shit like those examples before...or I haven't got their half of the trade at all, so now I hardly do trades unless they get their half done first.

I agree with this stamp. Though it may sound unfair to some people, I get what you mean by "decent" art.

I mean, I could understand if the artist's skill level isn't very high yet they put effort in their work but I totally hate it when I work my ass off for someone and get a simple doodle in return >_>

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

OliveTheBreloom [2011-12-14 16:38:49 +0000 UTC]

Although I like doing art trades with people who are decent artists, usually I'll do a trade as long ass they put effort (you can tell).

Because if they put effort, they'll be a great artist some day, and then you can trade happily.

EuphoricDream-Sketch [2011-12-11 20:35:58 +0000 UTC]

What I would judge as indecent art would be something that the person barely tired on, or it looks sloppy. I try not to judge on people's skill level, but the art does have to be decent to at least my standards. And those are not too high (I feel as if they are not). I've been in art trades were the people have bullshitted me for weeks and weeks saying they were going to complete their trade and never have, and I dont rush people either. But that's one of the reasons why I favor commissions over trades, becuase my rule is you have to pay me first. xD

What I see as 'indecent' art, is basically when they don't put in effort. Some of these 'unskilled' artist honestly put effort in...their skills are simply lacking. No-effort people simply doodle a quickie and post it. I mean, they didn't even sketch, or even colored it. They just sat their asses down and doodled something quickly. :/

Well, I think the presumption is if you're going to do art trades with someone like Genzoman or Teruchan then the idea is that you've built up your skills to show for it.

With all due respect, some people use art trades as a quick fix alternative to getting a commissions when really some of these kids couldn't even pull off an art trade with BrokenTeapot with their skills.

No one starts off drawing decent, that's why tells people to quit procrastinating and work on their art.

There's PLENTY of helpful books out there, Loomis is the most recommended.

That's neat. If that's how you feel, well, there you go. It's nice to have that feeling in stamp form. It could've been a little more nicely-worded, but still.

As for me, I generally trade with anyone that wants to trade with me. Much, if not all, of the time, though, I'm usually the one asking.

I've gotten quite a bit of heat from that back in the day, because most of the people I ask (including friends) are much better than I am. That doesn't mean I don't try to put effort in my end, and it certainly doesn't me I'm not trying to improve my art. At the very least, it's fun to draw characters that aren't my own.

AwesomeGaby97 In reply to ??? [2010-10-10 15:57:15 +0000 UTC]

Instead of saying decent art I think the stamp would be ... a lot nicer.. if you like said something about doing art trades with people on the same skill level as you. Like along the lines of what said in a comment down there.

Cause' to me it just doesn't feel nice when somebody who loves drawing, but isn't that good gets told that they don't have good art.. its just a matter of time and practice and eventually they will get better if they try.

I do agree with the base thing though. Why should somebody spend their time to draw something for somebody, when all they are doing is taking a base a crappily putting some color on it. Unless its somebodies own base(that they created), and they are like master-pixel people who can make it look amazing I wouldn't accept a base either. I see that as slacking, and a way for somebody to get free art when all they have to do is spend 5 minutes on ms paint doing nothing.

Excellent stamp, and not at all unkind-- just frank, and I respect that. I don't exactly agree cos I really don't mind one way or another (besides I've rarely been asked to make a trade by someone careless and/or with no skills), however, I am annoyed when I come across someone who can barely draw yet gets countless people to trade with them and-- as if that weren't bad enough-- make a huge wall of thumbnails of all the good drawings other people made of their Mary Sue. I've even seen someone make a group/club just to submit all of the pictures people drew for them.
A weeee bit egotistical/obsessed, I think.

In my opinion, all artworks are beautiful no matter how long that a person has worked on it. Even if one person takes a long time to finish their half of an art trade, they shouldn't be upset at a picture that took someone else 1 hour or less to finish.
