Description When Avery Bishop was abducted by Millennium to serve in her Millennium Guard, his friends all knew something had happened to him, but nobody knew what. All they had to go on was his abandoned car and a scorched circle in the dirt by the open trunk. the authorities refused to publicly speculate on Bishop's fate, but his best friend, Jorge Ramos had his suspicions. Jorge was fairly certain Avery had fallen prey to a super criminal. Maybe they'd mistaken Avery for someone wealthy? Maybe they thought the Park Ranger could assist them with finding a buyer for stolen artifacts? Maybe he'd been whisked off to Science Project Zero and those madmen were subjecting him to who knew what kind of torturous experiments? The very thought made Jorge's skin crawl.

After a couple weeks, when it was obvious the local police were stymied and no super-heroes seemed interested, Jorge decided to investigate on his own. Like the cops, Ramos couldn't find any clues as to where his friend had disappeared to. Then Avery's sister Alyson left town for parts unknown. Her last stop before leaving was some nutty old psychic. Still, desperate for any information, Jorge visited the old charlatan himself. He had little hope it would lead to anything, after all he had an aunt who read tarot and specialized in taking money from the gullible. When she met with him her advice was; "You will find what you need in the ocean."

Science project Zero was across the ocean. While it was illegal to go to the Antarctic city state ruled by mad scientists, Jorge vowed he would make it there and rescue his friend. It took him nearly a year of careful searching before he found a ship captain willing to take him where he wanted to go. Luck wasn't with him though, for just off the coast, his ship was caught in the blast radius of a space-folding missile the madmen were testing. In a brilliant flash of light the ship was torn apart and Jorge plunged into the frigid waters...of the North Atlantic. The wormhole blast had tossed him thousands of miles away from his destination, dooming him to a frigid death by either hypothermia or drowning. At least that's what he thought.

Miraculously, he was rescued by a military patrol from the sunken kingdom of Atlantis. They were on a mission to recover an artifact stolen from one of their temples...a blue stone purported to have the power to control the waves themselves. Not being a particularly superstitious bunch, they weren't completely certain those powers existed, but the stone was a national treasure. Once aboard their craft, they supplied Jorge with a dry uniform they kept on hand just in case they got a distress call from a land dweller ship. The uniform would protect him from the frigid cold and would allow him to survive the ocean depths. Unable to turn back from their mission, they had no choice but to take Jorge with them. Jorge didn't mind, he was immediately smitten with their commander, a warrior woman called Oceana.

When they caught up with the thieves, the Atlanteans engaged them in combat. Unfortunately, the thieves in question were actually a pair of aquatic super-villains, Sunray and Deathray and the Atlanteans were hard pressed to defeat them. Wanting to assist, Jorge stole aboard the villains' ship in an effort to locate the stone. He did, but Deathray caught him in the act of retrieving it. There was a brief struggle, when the stone touched Jorge's chest and flared to life. In moments, as he panicked, Jorge accidentally tapped into the stone's power and summoned a massive wave, which smashed the villains' ship. Deathray was left comatose and Sunray grabbed his brother and fled.

Empowered by the stone, Jorge assumed the heroic identity, Tidal Wave and agreed to defend Atlantis. The Atlantean government in turn agreed to assist him in searching for Avery. By the time Avery returned to Earth as Valiant, Jorge had married Oceana and the pair had gained quite a reputation as marine super-heroes.

Abilities-

Tidal Wave has been changed by the sea stone embedded in his chest to possess a number of abilities perfect for seaborn adventures.

He is highly resistant to cold and pressure as well as being amphipious.

He can swim at speed in excess of 100 knots.

He has super-human strength and durability. He can press approximately 50 tons.

His most potent ability is his hydrokinesis. He has complete control over liquid water and is capable of anything from discreet effects to simply creating a punishing wave, millions of gallons in volume. He cannot create water or summon water to an arid location, he simply controls what is present within his range.

I dig the wave on the belt. You could even make it larger, like a wrestling championship belt and it would serve as a larger insignia. Or not.

Well I could bring the insignia back if I update his uniform again.

He looks a lot like Namor and Black Adam. Awesome story though.

Don't you think he looks a little too much like Namor. Great bio by the way

Maybe. Perhaps a redesign will come later. I'll have to see how pervasive he is in my stories.

Now that is an excellent bio/origin story. Little details like the auntie and the extra uniforms just in case... Oh, I am so very fond. And Science Project Zero, quickly becoming one of my favourite fictionopolises.

Yeah, SPZ is sort of my "go to" answer for the question "how did this mook villain get tech/super-powers like that?"

Mark Gruenwald (r.i.p.) created the Tinker and the Power Broker for Marvel to address the same question because face it, a bunch of these guys aren't bright enough to invent the stuff they use. They're smart enough to buy it though.

As for Tidal Wave, having mentioned him a couple different times in assorted write-ups from Valiant to Karnivore, I figured I ought to get him posted. Soon I have to add the wall o' text to Oceana's pic. I've been even more negligent with her. Her pic has been up for almost a year without any accompanying information.
