The battle was all but lost. The steadfast Obsidian Lords of Spire refused to budge, maintaining their hold on the petite Glowstone Isles, MCworld's only known natural source of the mysterious mineral which was the isles' namesake.
Violence had escalated recently over control of the Isles, in which both parties had a vested, albeit aesthetic interest. The Obsidian Lords, word had it, wished to line their mountain city with glowstone, thus expending the Isles' natural resources. Opposing the Obsidian Lords were the angels of the nearby wood. Soldiers of Lady Light herself, the angels revered glowstone as a sacred mineral, fit only for their use... and of course, they were thinking of the well being of the isles, too....
The two parties had often squabbled in the past, but this conflict was to be the ultimate dividing incident between them. The angels found fierce rivals in the proud Obsidian lords, winged golem-like elementals with marvellous armour of cooled lava. Both sides suffered in the battle for the Isles, but the forces of light would not be deterred.
With a flash of searing energy, the archangel Gloriana descended from above, barrelling into the dazed Obsidian ranks and wreaking havoc that was to become legend. The path she single-handedly carved through the enemy brought panic upon them. The angels rallied and the Isles were won. Such a victory did not faze the archangel. In honour of their victory, the angels mined the isle of its glowstone and built a grand palace of light which would shine for miles around. A triumph of the righteous, Gloriana would later remark offhand regarding the incident. But then, there had never been any doubt as to the outcome.
