Do I need a tablet?
Nope! This has been done just with a sketch paper or mouse, so you don't need a tablet.

Not anymore, actually I use tablet since july for regular drawings, and for pixel art I sketch directly with mouse uvu

Generally, what size canvas do you use? Since a thickness of 2 or 10 would look different on different sized pieces.

Cubo is Bucket in English if you need some help translating I can help btw but otherwise yeah I've recently started playing with Sai and this would have been helpful a few days ago.

Sorry then for doing this so late then ;A; Maybe future tutorials will be more useful for you. I thought about starting with light effects and textures, but later I thought that starting in the beginning would be great too.

Not only started: just that has not tried SAI and it's a way to show that you can get great results even if not having a tablet. It's a nice way to make digital art just with mouse, I think.

It is is why I say it might have not helped me but it might have already helped someone else and I really need to buckle down and finish this artwork before I get my head bitten off.

Nope! Just a sketch paper and mouse usage. You use lines as vectors and you can edit them easily, so you don't need a tablet.
