Description So, this here is my entry to ~Spune-Who 's contest . This was just one of those contests which I would be mad not to enter. I mean, designing aliens for Doctor Who? I can't think of anyway to make that contest better.

So, I whipped up 5 alien ambassadors. As I understand it, they'd probably just be background characters, so I tried to keep the designs alien and simple. Just for a reference, the Gulgar (toad/octopus) is about human sized.

Background
Shvarus
The Shvarus are a species of arboreal insectivores. They were rather straight-forward with their dealings and had difficulty with the concept of small talk. They gained much of their galactic knowledge when they were attacked by a splinter nest of Wirrn and simply zapped and ate them all, gaining the knowledge of the hive mind along the way. They are generally avoided, though, since they haven't abolished slavery yet.
Ambassador Schi-Hul is a popular ambassador, always willing to fight for a cause. She is also a transvestite, but since alien fashions are difficult to follow, no one has noticed (big shoulder pads are rather masculine.

Molvians
The Molvians are a rather haughty race, known for their self-centred point of view. Unfortunately, they are a very minor power on the Galactic scale, so few species take their opinions seriously. No Molvian is seen without their riding Handa, even though they are perfectly capable of walking by themselves. This has led some people to believe that the Handa are the intelligent ones and that the Molvians are just very uppity servants or pets. Molvians fervently deny this, of course.
Ambassador Kha is a rather subdued Molvian. It is likely due to centuries of politicking that he's realized that Molvians could easily be wiped out and he therefore needs to keep everyone else happy with the Molvians. Most of his efforts are stalled by his Handa steed, Gok, who is known for venting waste at inopportune times.

Malakh
A very dangerous race. Avoid at all costs.
Moop the Merciless is a savage Malakh leader, feared throughout the galaxy. He has personally started 3 wars from his violent mood swings and aggressive nature.

Gulgar
The Gulgar are a peaceful species of amphibians. Though not true shapeshifters, they are very flexible and capable of changing their colour, allowing them to mimic simply structures and patterns. Their economy is largely based on the bright blue amber found on their planet, which is used in jewellery and fibreoptics. Gulgars are boneless and support their weight with an advanced form of hydrostatics, which means they must keep wet or they will simply be forced to flop around helplessly.
Ambassador Gullum is a quiet person, rarely giving more than a yes or a no and notorious for never giving justification for his decisions. He also uses his camouflaging powers to spy on others, and knows far more about politics than he should. He will occasionally use what he's seen to blackmail other ambassadors to help his causes.

Kelek
The Keleks are very similar to the Alpha Centaurans , both physically and mentally. They are known for being nervous, pacifistic, bureaucratic and perpetual worriers, much like the Alpha Centaurans. The only reason they didn't interact more with the Alpha Centaurans was because the Alpha Centaurans are hermaphrodites, while the Keleks have 5 genders, and both species find the other's method of reproduction rather disturbing. Keleks also have a rather Dalek like appearance, leading to several unfortunate incidents with species with bad eyesight.
Ambassador Neg'kek is a rather stereotypical Kelek. Schler only distinguishing traits are schler collection of the Dark Times artefacts and schler love of musical theatre.

Great ideas, like the simplicity of the designs these definitely wouldn't be out of place in an episode of Dr Who. (Any thoughts on the new Dr?)

I was aiming for simple designs. No need to make them any harder to draw than they need to be.

And I don't have opinions of the new series, only specific episodes.

I have no critique, sorry, but I believe it's good that you wrote some info about all these alien races.

These are truly brilliant and really fit into the style and tone of the episode (and the whole series...)

Shvarus
Love the ambassador's secret. Such a specific bit of background that nobody would ever know (although I'll mention it on the commentary).

Molvians
This will be a really great visual gag when the Doctor walks past them. I thought it would be funny if he greeted the Hara instead of the ambassador.

Malakh
Hilarious. I want to do a whole story about them.

Gulgar
I love him. He's very unique and will look great in the council.

Kelek
Really unique. Interestingly, Daleks have yet to be invented/discovered in our canon so he could act as a sort of visual clue. Also it is interesting you mention Alpha Centuri, because they feature in this episode semi-prominently.

They're all great and I look forward to sticking them in. I'll upload a picture of them when they're finished.

Awesome.

-Yeah, the whole cross-dressing thing was the side-effect of just working it out as I went along "Alright, orange and blue I think, tentacles, she's a cross-dressing... wait, what?"
-I didn't even think of that gag. I just thought it would be funny for an ambassador to have a steed.
-That would be interesting.
-I'm rather fond of him to.
-I hope I'm not creating too much of a continuity problem/anachronism with the Daleks. That's always a problem when you're trying to reference continuity...

I can't wait! I always love seeing my creations in someone else's style.

Hmm...I must say, you've done it again! Good luck in this contest!

And the backstories would be interesting, I think. You always have odd or interesting ones worth reading.

How about now? Those backstories good enough for you?

Also, thanks.
