So, this here is my entry to ~TyrantisTerror 's contest . I must say, this was one of the trickier contests I've done in a while. Not because of the concept, but because the constituent creatures are so boring.So, while I was looking for ancient whale (in the hope that there was one that I was forgetting that had a more interesting design) one of the image results was of a killer whale, Haida style (I didn't know the Haida were ancient, but whatever). So, really, since I didn't have any better ideas, I went with it.
"What is a gorilla/whale with Haida designs doing in Japan?" you may ask. "No smeggin' idea," I must reply.

Eeeheeeheheeeheee, I'm so glad I posted that challenge! This is a durn interesting take on the concept - it certainly went in a direction I didn't predict, which is fanfreakingtastic. Native American inspired monsters = awesome, and the Haida style manages to conceal the chimeric nature of the beast really well. Excellent job!

I do always try to dig a bit deeper to think up interesting ideas.
I think the style conceals the chimeric nature too well. I mean, it looks like a Haida style monster instead of a Haida style apewhale.
