Description
Before you read my comment, I'd like you to see what you are thinking when you see this, so your first impression won't be affected by my or other people's thoughts...I had no comment written for this before getting a DD, but someone suggested I should.
Some of you who have chosen to comment are taking this image in scope of pro-life and pro-choice issue. It would definitely be a suiting image for that in my opinion too.
If you're curious, this was found in a medical building of my university where they had done dissections of people who had given consent. It is to see what a fetus looks like in different stages of life. I'm not a medical student and I found this room by accident when I was taking shelter from rain.
I had a lot of thoughts that flashed in my mind but one of the things that lingered while I was taking the shot was this poem, as I've already written in another similar image:
Think how it is to have a conversation with an embryo.
You might say, "The world outside is vast and intricate.
There are wheatfields and mountain passes,
and orchards in bloom.
At night there are millions of galaxies, and in sunlight
the beauty of friends dancing at a wedding."
You ask the embryo why he, or she, stays cooped up
in the dark with eyes closed.
Listen to the answer.
There is no "other world."
I only know what I've experienced.
You must be hallucinating.
-Rumi
Now Mowlana Rumi was a mystic Sufi; he believed in another world after death and and he wrote this as an analogy of those who denied that. But this could mean in more ways than that. It could relate to our lack of experience to any other "world" hidden from us. I believe there could be many types of veils... It could be the world inside another human being, another heart. It could be about belief of God or lack of. I'm an astronomy student, so my thoughts also go to black holes, possibility of parallel universe or higher dimensions, or such.
So really, I think we are all an embryo in a lot of ways.
As for the DD, I'm realizing the one image that I had the least part is chosen from my gallery. My thoughts go to the mother of this little one and the decisions she had to make, the father, all the other family or friends who were involved, the doctor and others who handled and took part in this little body to be there in that room...
Thank you ikai-zixie to have found this image, showing compassion and so much wonderment and suggesting it, and Timothy-Sim for picking it amongst many.
And if you've read so far thank you, I appreciate it...I hope you'll share your thoughts or feelings too...

The fetus was defiantly not aborted. Abortions being legal on a fetus this developed seem doubtful. I have a strong suspicion the fetus died in the womb.

I find some pictures quite scary. This one is one of those. But I only find it scary because of how real it is.
It gives a life of it's own, even without living.

I've always had a curiosity for the medical world, and always when I see things like this I've always thought "What can be learned from what we see" And it was a bit funny, when I read your comment to go back and look at the image, I had a bit twist in thinking, I had to think "What secrets does he know".
Basically the same question but a significantly different way of thinking.
I'm not religious in any way, but I am somewhat spiritual, I believe we are a energy, and with like all energy there is a start and end... but I couldn't help but to feel with this that perhaps this energy of this guy has much greater knowledge then we will gain while living.
Puh, life and death, it's a riddle that's never going to be solved. *keeps on wondering* XD; *favfav*

Life is all about experience. We can only know what we have experienced, anything else is left to faith. To belief.
I'm autotheistic. I believe that we each shape reality around us and thus we are the creators of our own worlds... none of which preclude the existence of any other. Whether our world is bigger, brighter, more RIGHT than any other is irrelevant because we can only ever know our own world.
This is why judgment on any others actions, so long as it does not directly harm you, is simply incorrect because you can NOT know the entirety of their reality.
I stretch my hand out. I can touch my laptop screen, the comforter on my bed, a pair of jeans on the floor. This is my world, this is my reality. I made it because I touched it, I see it with my eyes and I know that it is real for me.
If you never reach out to touch, to experience, if you simply lay with your eyes closed... you are but an embryo, never to live, never to see and taste and smell. Our life, and thus our birth, is only validated by the experiences we have to prove it is there.
This is my thought.

My first thought was for the indignity visited upon the child. As to Rumi's quote, I take it to mean that the only true reality is the one we conjure for ourselves in our own heads, but that reality should really contain the possibility of "other worlds". So although Rumi makes a point with his quote, I might dare to say it's a shallow one.

My first impression is: neat! (I figured the fetus was had died naturally) (abortion never hit my mind).
All humans sin, who are we to judge the parents if we are no better? Sure, many people probably have not aborted a child but in God's eyes all sin is the same meaning stealing, cheating, and adultery are all the same. He can forgive any sin through the blood of Christ by believing that He can save you and turning away from your sin.
I wish everyone a good day!

My mom was nearly 40 when she had me, and the doctor tried to pressure her into aborting me, saying it was dangerous considering her age and medical problems... but in the end chose not to.
This could have been me...
I wonder who this little baby would have been?

This is haunting yet fascinating.
I like knowing things so it intrigues me to know that this is what I once looked like in my mother's womb.
But it's disturbing to think this child was never born. What kind of person would this embryo have become? Could he/she been a world leader? A musician? A great artist? A doctor? A lawyer? A scientist?

I've seen a jar containing a fetus before as well, it was displayed in a biology museum
at first i thought, "how cruel of the parents to give up a baby like this"
then it said in a sign just near the display, before you judge, read this:
it said that those babies were miscarried and just "fell" accidentally.
so i realize, it must've been also sad for the parents to lose their baby before he was even born

Abortion is a sad thing, but we cannot know the circumstances that made it happen.
If nothing else, at least someone can study and learn from this body, so this person didn't "die in vain", but it was not his/her own choice either....
Anyway, the photo is interesting and the baby is cute.......

Chilling, and amazing at the same time...

So lonely and vulnerable in a big unknown world, it has this feeling of sweet surrender....and yet here you are...
I feel our lives can be unfold in very unexpected and amazing ways...

But guys, if the abortion is done soon enough it's not a child, but a cluster of cells.
"Natural" abortions happen all the time and are disregarded as nothing more then a heavy period.

Grotesque and chilling and heartbreaking all at once. A life cut short and suspended in time. Rather than making it an issue of abortion rights, every person seeing this should reflect on their own lives and the wonderful experiences they'd been alive to have. As for me, I'm going to go outside and look at the starts for awhile. It's a sight I've missed.

As morbid and uncalled for as this comment may seem, this image makes me wonder what it would be like to dissect the fetus, or if we tried to keep it growing or bring it back to life, or if I had it in it's jar on the mantle, or if we encased it in a solid box of glass, but the hot glass would burn the fetus =/

'A person's a person, no matter how small' Life begins at conception and is precious. To kill the unborn is murder all the same.
Doctors often won't show the ultrasound to women who want to abort, because the woman will see her child moving.

Today is the anniversary of Hiroshima. Many babies were stillborn after that and bottled to show scientists the gross deformities that come with nuclear war.
As for abortion, I am against abortion but I am more against back-yard abortions leading girls to die from terrible complications because no doctor will do it.

At first glance... this picture kinda makes me think about abortion. It's makes me sad to think that a woman can just get rid of her child, just because she 'doesn't want it'. So selfish. An infant child, a human being inside them, and they can just kill it without a second thought to it. A child that will never see the beauty of the world, but at least will never suffer.
But who are they? The mothers that decide these babies don't have a right to live, and kill them before they can take their first breath. The fetus in this picture most likely would've had a heartbeat... but they took it away . . .
