___
There was a boomerang heading directly toward her, so Iris West-Allen squared her feet and got ready to dodge.
Turned out she didn’t have to.
In a whirl of colour she was picked up and carried a safe distance away.
“Are you alright ma'am?” The loud, cheerful voice reached her ears and she couldn’t help but grin.
“Good to see you again, Kid Flash.” She replied just before she was carefully set down.
She got a grin and a laugh in reply, just before he zoomed away again, jumping right back into the fight, keeping civilians away from the harm’s way.
Iris’s heart leaped when she saw Flash dodge a boomerang right before it would have hit him in the face, but rolled her eyes a little, when he seemed surprised that it turned around and followed after him.
She had to hide her laugh at the hero’s antics.
Her camerawoman finally caught up, and Iris -after checking if her co-worker was okay - continued reporting.
“Captain Boomerang went on a shooting spree after another one of his heists got stopped by the Central City’s superheroes- The Flash and Kid Flash.” She had to fight with herself and not let her pride show too much, every time she spoke about them.
Another boomerang whizzed right past them, but they just dodged and continued the news.
This was Central City, the home of two fastest men alive. It was no wonder that their supervilians and the civilians were quick on their feet as well.
The studies actually showed that people of Central had a quicker reaction time than those from other cities.
Just as quickly as it started, the fight seemed to be over, and the Flash zoomed off to carry Captain Boomerang to the police station.
Kid Flash was left on the street, swiftly cleaning the rubble and trash, making the road accessible again, but was soon enough crowded by the reporters.
Iris included.
“Flash Kid, what do you think about Flash’s-”
“Speedy, how exactly did The Flash-”
“Hey Quick Boy! Where is The Flash ta-”
“Kid Flash” Her voice cut like butter, right through the other yelling people, causing him to immediately focus on her.
A grin split across his face.
“Mrs West-Allen!” He replied cheerfully, and the other reporters clearly found Iris’s tactic to be the best, because soon after everyone started yelling ‘Kid Flash’ to get his attention.
“Care for an interview?” She asked over the crowd, not at all bothered by the noise. She had the undivided attention of the only person that counted.
He really couldn’t stop grinning. He opened his mouth to reply, but a second later, The Flash himself was there, distracting everyone away from Kid Flash.
He quickly told the media what was going on, him and his partner sporting matching grins.
Kid Flash’s attention was still on her.
“Sorry.” He tried calling over the noise. She heard him clear as day. “Maybe another time.”
They bid their goodbyes to the press, Flash sent a quick wink Iris’ way, before him and Kid Flash left in a gust of wind.
The redhead sending one last wave at the reporters before disappearing.
Iris smiled.
___
She came back with aching feet, to an empty house.
Slowly taking off her jacket and shoes- in no rush now that she was home- she changed her clothes into something more comfortable, before walking into the kitchen, starting to prepare dinner.
It didn’t take long, before the sound of opening doors reached her ears and she grinned.
She could hear him taking off his shoes and leaving his bag by the doors, before quietly walking over to her.
“Hi honey.” She turned for a second to place a gentle kiss on his forehead, before she turned back to making dinner.
Wally gave her a small, careful smile, before walking over to the sink to wash his hands.
“How was school?” She asked, as he took the cutting board away from her, and started swiftly cutting up onions, letting her take care of other stuff. There was a lot of food to prepare everyday in their house.
He shrugged. She hummed in reply.
“Sounds better than my day then.” He raised an eyebrow at her. “My day started out great, because I was covering a story about Flash and Kid Flash stopping a heist.” She noted his amused expression as she continued. “But the rest of the day I spent at the CCPN and just had to sit through a couple of boring meetings, and run around the office a lot.”
He nodded in understanding, glancing at her feet questioningly. She smiled.
“Yeah, they are still aching. I think I’m going to listen to you and actually wear my running shoes to work.” Wally seemed really pleased with that. He slowly started relaxing again. It always took him some time, especially after a rough day in school.
A compationate silence fell over them, as they prepared the meal together.
___
Less than an hour later the food was ready.
A giant, steaming pot of spaghetti was left on the stove, Wally pilling his plate high, while Iris took a normal portion.
No matter how late they all came back home, they always made sure to eat dinner together.
She loved spaghetti, just for the fact that it couldn’t be eaten too quickly.
Wally took the first bite and hummed quietly in satisfaction. He swallowed.
“This is great.” He murmured under his breath with a smile and Iris grinned.
“Well, it was made by the two best cooks in this house.” She replied, causing him to timidly grin at her.
Barry chose that moment to appear at the doors, yelling 'honey and kiddo! I’m home!’ like he always did.
He stood a moment at the entrance to the kitchen, leaning against the doorframe and just looking at the two of them for a moment, with a fond expression on his face.
“You’re late.” Iris chided with a smile, while Wally nodded his head with a small grin, and the blonde rolled his eyes at them.
“Because that never happened before. Ever.” He ruffled his nephew’s hair as he went past, and then kissed Iris on the cheekm on his way to the pot. When he came back, his plate was piled high with food.
He started talking about work as he took his first bite. His eyes opened in surprise.
“This is great!” He exclaimed with a grin, quickly eating more.
“Told you.” Iris turned to Wally. “Two best cooks in the house.”
They ignored Barry’s 'what about me?’ and his pout, both sporting the exact same smile.
Wally laughed a little under his breath.
___
Dick texted a little bit after dinner, so Wally excused himself for a moment to talk to his friend.
Iris and Barry could see him sitting at the foot of the stairs, tapping away on his phone, as he and his friend swapped messages.
Iris was glad that Wally could talk to Dick, and Kid Flash could talk to Robin. She was glad that Wally’s friend knew the difference.
___
“He’s the killer.” Barry spoke up, pointing at the small brunette standing in the corner of the room. He sat on one end of the couch, gently massaging his wife’s shoulders.
“Nuh-uh.” Chimed in Wally, pointing with his chin at the blonde in the middle, making a scene. “Her boyfriend and her did it.” He was massaging Iris’s feet, that rested comfortably in his lap.
“You are both so wrong.” Iris rolled her eyes, her hand gently running through Wally’s red hair as they watched some old criminal show together. “It was clearly the director.”
She really missed just sitting down with the two of them and watching tv shows together. It was around two weeks since they all had a calm night like that.
Wally and Barry exchanged comebacks and she interrupted from time to time, giving her own feedback.
Right before the climax of the movie, Wally’s communicator beeped.
He quickly put it in his ear.
“Kid Flash here.” His voice loud and clear in the dark room. Barry quickly paused the movie, letting the kid talk in peace.
“No problem, I’ll be there. Kid Flash out.” He gently lifted Iris’ legs up and slid from under them.
Iris and Barry looked at him expectandly.
“There is a mission tonight.” He told them, his voice slowly losing it’s strenght again.
Iris nodded.
“Be careful.” She told him with a smile.
“We’ll be waiting.” Barry added, standing up and ruffling the kids hair again.
Wally grinned, before zipping upstairs and coming down with a new costume ring.
They walked him to the doors, saying their good lucks.
When is was her turn to hug her nephew, he carefully wrapped his arms around her and hid his face in her neck.
What he said was barely heard, breathed out into her neck, but she heard it.
“I love you too.” She replied gently, placing one last kiss on his temple.
Then Wally was gone, hidden behind the more confident Kid Flash.
“It’s time to save the world.” He shrugged with a laugh, before giving them a quick 'Bye Aunt I! Bye Uncle B!’ as he ran at normal speed down the street, toward the Zeta-beam.
Barry wraped his arm around her waist and pulled her closer.
“Our kid.” He said proudly, watching him go.
She smiled.
“Our kid.”
___
tags: Wally is quiet when at school/in public.
At home he gets more relaxed and after an hour or so, talks and jokes around normaly.
As Kid Flash he feels more confident and is not afraid of people judging him because of the mask, so he's louder than normal.
