Description
Ha,ha,ha, the fools they've let me out of my cell again! (wipes foam from mouth). Right now this piece is a reworking of The Uninvited House Guest v1.0 which is a straight word-to-image chapter illustration. This version is meant to be a Dave McKeen-esque abstract illustration, inspired by his covers for the Sandman Comics, which usually are a collage of objects/type/images treated so that they suggest the story. Unfortunately I do not think that photos or a collage containing an actual rifle and images of an actual teenage girl wearing nothing but a bath robe would go down well with the local authorities. So I started with the idea of the image of the character of Screamer being constructed from the words of the story. But instead of using just my painted version of her, I used the face of the model from my original research and blended it in with my painted version, (see Screamer Portrait). I also wanted to include a detailed image of the SAS Hermit's back, because the scarring is not very clear on v1.0. I also wanted to convey a sense of what the scene is about, that the character of Screamer is reaching out to the SAS Hermit to remind him that he is still able to connect to another human being. I don't know how well this piece works, but I'm happy with it and in doing this piece I have found a lovely shade of the colour blue that I've decided to keep as a pet. I've named him Nigel, he sleeps in the corner of my cell, and he seems to like animal crackers. The short story The Uninvited House Guest, which can be read at

Thanks, it's very much appreciated. I've got more illustrations to do for this project, when I've finished scripting the forth graphic novel volume based on a novel by the same author, (which I hope will be completed later this week). Unfortunately I can't write poetry for toffee, left to my own devices I write stuff like my journal entry, or filth like this [link]

You could use words like "juxtaposition" and "asymmetrical composition" and all that rubbish, but why when the word "beautiful" is more concise and to the point?
I'm only kidding, I know what your saying, you come from a literature background and you find beauty in words. That's a fantastic ability. It's something I can't do anyway.

I cannot produce any kind of visual art, but I can appriciate it. I do like words. they hold a great deal of power

That's brilliant. You don't have to be able to do anything visual to appreciate it. To be honest the ability to paint and draw has mostly been a pain for me.
Words have power. Tell me about it, scripting a novel for a visual medium like a comic has lots of what I call "Lord of the Rings moments" If you've ever read LOTR, you'll know that JRR Tolkien spends 5 pages writing about a tea party, and then writes in a line "and then there was a big battle". My response to such moments has been "bugger!" and then writing yet another email to the author saying why an entire section of his novel doesn't work in a visual media.

lol, Love LOTR, and yes, he gets very descriptive. this is why the attempts at writing novels for me have ended in 10 pages of oops, I guess I need to fill in somemore details, and then a happy haiku, why write page after page when 17 sylables says it all

Well because unless those 17 syllables are the dialogue of the character of Frank from the film Punisher: War Zone, the story won't progress very far I'm kidding again and I see your point.

I have a very Princess Bride view of things: "allow me to explain, wait, there is to much, I will sum up" I don't think I got the quote perfect, but you get the idea, and because I don't think I got the quote perfect, I now have an excuse to watch the movie again

Any excuse. Cult film though, I have to admit I haven't seen it in a few years.

Yeah I get the same way about Iron Man and Sin City. But I've got too many films to watch anything on a regular basis.

Thank you, I'm glad you like it. I don't know about having "an all out personality", I do what I like within reason, I don't have a lot to live for, so I don't feel I have to impress anybody. It's just a "happy accident" that what I like to do is art, making people laugh... and world domination
Thanks for the compliments, very much appreciated!
