Description Ok forgive the humm, dull title. Usually when I finish a piece, the name just jumps out at me within a matter of seconds and always seems to click.

Anyway I know there are a few mistakes in this picture but I doscourage critique for two reasons. 1 already know where the mistakes are and the reason im uploading is because otherwise they will drive me insane to the point of doing something about it and I just want to consider it finished and two it was a result of a two hour free draw that I didnt expect to go ANYWHERE, so the fact that it came even this far stunned even me(especially in the short amount of time)

Alrighty now for the formal description. After my last project involving a panther I had dozens of pictures of black panthers sitting on my comp that I studied to get the anatomy and fur of the panther for the commission right. So I was rather bored and looking at them again and something random struck me. I was suddenly amazed by just how light can play off of a black panther's coat and based on the surrounding light make them appear less than black. A few photos I had really showed off the spots of a black panther when lighting hits them and what for whatever reason I found even more amazing was the almost greenish hue their coats and still carry a silverish sheen on top of that hue! The spots show through very well too! So I decided to experiment for myself with the idea. I rather like how it turned out too!

Edit: Yes I did use a reference for the initial concept, specifically for the intense expression .

Prints: Yes, 8x10 10$US, plus shipping. Print will not be watermarked.

Sorry folks, I never wanted to watermark my work, but my hand was twisted. This is my income and when people steal my work, they steal food from my mouth.

O.O I really need to stop commenting on your work now (I'm looking at it all for the first time), but I'll just post this here: I completely ADORE your realistic pieces. They are so amazing, this one included. The lighting, the depth, the /reality/... It's very, very cool. This particular one is also extremely nice because of how you did it: he's not dead center; you left half of the canvas blank, and you didn't simply cut it to make it as small as possible. That shows thought, as if each of the individual hairs didn't. ;D Anywho, wonderful job. I'll be watching you. -wiggles eyebrows-

does it show up pretty dark on your screen??? It should be rather detailed but with an lcd monitor I can never tell how true to life the color is.

Breathtaking. And that's simply put. I saw this under someone's favorites and couldn't help but come to fav it myself. There's just no word in my vocabulary to discribe this brilliance... Do you happen to use Photoshop? Even if not, I didn't think one could achieve such detail... and in two hours, too!! Simply breathtaking.

First off the two panthers are different...secondly I never said I didnt use a reference, I simply stated I didn't use a direct reference which I did not. I liked the photo but I did not like that one it was chopped in places and two I wanted to convey a far more moody feel for the piece and so I interpreted the photo for my own purposes. This meant I had to interpret my own lighting, colors, shading since the panther pictured is not a black panther bur rather a regular african panther. I would ask you not to go around slandering artists in their galleries. If you do not like the piece, fine thats left up to you and two if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.

i think that if someone used a drawing of yours, and it was as close to it as this piece was to that photograph, you would rather be given credit for the reference than not be given any.

Excellent composition! and I don't believe the title is dull at all... I think it's very fitting
Between the subject, balance, border, title and colors, this piece is spectacular. I would love to have something like that on my wall at home
The quality and composition of this overshadows any 'mistakes', and I really think there are no troubling problems with it. You did an excellent job. ^_^

balaa In reply to Cunjo [2005-04-08 17:36:42 +0000 UTC]

The more I see the title the more it fits..I just tend to let the name hit me and choose the one that clicks...this one seemed forced is all...I suppose sometimes that happens .

Now I must add a special thank you for your comments! I know you have mentioned that you have been very busy of late and yet you still find time to make such wonderful and heart warming comments on my work! Comments like these make the work very well worth the effort, frustration, endless nights of lacking inspiration and time! Thank you, there are truly a few people that stand out among the sometimes oceanesque amount of comments and yours are one of them .

Cunjo In reply to balaa [2005-04-09 14:08:24 +0000 UTC]

lol, that happens with all of my titles. God only knows how it is that you have them 'just click' But yes, I think it is a very well thought-out name, and fits the piece admirably.

You're very welcome; your work and effort are worth it

PS. did you get my email? it might have been junk-filtered.

No I can't find it! If you don't mind me asking what ya e-mailed? I do not like missing my e-mails..but I suppose technology, in all its infinite wisdom, is still prone to errors . If you like try e-mailing me again, maybe use a title I would definetly recognize.. IE "cunjo from deviant" or something along those lines .

Oh and thank you kindly for the wonderful comment on my "egyptian Pride" piece, always honored to receieve words of praise from yourself .

Cunjo In reply to balaa [2005-04-11 23:17:57 +0000 UTC]

It was an invitation to Gmail, along with a brief commentary on it. I'll send it again. You don't have to accept if you don't want to, but seeing is how it's a substantial improvement over yahoo, I thought you may be interested. Unfortunately, I can't alter the title on an invitation. it will say "(my name) has invited you..." and will be from MobiusM1(little bot-attracting sign)gmail(dot)com
I apologize for not giving you my name here, but I don't want it appearing on the open web with my alias where a search bot could pick it up.

You're very welcome; it is I who should be honored

OOOh well thank you ! I am surprised to see google has an e-mail service! I am already rather fond of it for what few minutes Ive seen it . It didn't give me the name I wanted but alas what can you do. So my e-mail shall be the same as my yahoo one, for the time being. I was hoping for simply Balaa as Ive not been able to get that anywhere else. But thats life . Thank you for the invitation, much obliged!
