A concept sketch for a painting idea Ive been brainstorming for a while now. I, like many, have a long standing fascination with wings/flight. It would sound cliche to say I always dreamt of having wings/flying in the open sky high above the world..but as cliche as it sounds..its the truth. As a child I often fdaydreamed about having enormous white wings and just tasting the sky. Obviously I know, today, that can't happen but now flying has a different meaning to me. It represents freedom, freedom to dream and imagine..to be a child at heart..to pursue one's dreams..however silly the world may tell them they are. Too many times I was told to grow up and focus on reality as a child..and I didn't want to! You can still be an adult and carry the responsibilities that come with being adult and live your dreams. So this painting to me represents childhood innocence and allowing the children of today to remain the dreamers of tomorrow. The mother snow leopard does not have wings to be symbollic of that which is often stripped of children when they grow into adulthood..but she is allowing her youngster to soar.It's still in its concept stage and I still have many different angles/poses/compositions I'd like to explore of this idea...so there may be more rough sketches to come as different ideas shape the concept.

no..I actually came across the unfinished piece yesterday....I may actually post the wip to FA...hehe see if I can get some feedback on possible directions I can take it in to better the flow of the composition. This is one I WANT/need to finish x_x. Also I need to reply to your comment on FA x).

I'd love to see this painted. The contrast in texture between the wings, fur, wood, and snow would be fascinating to see in painted form.

Giving kittens wings... what a world that would be. No object of interest would be safe again, anywhere. This... this is an idea that's been done before, but I think a Balaa treatment would be of great interest. The sketch looks very promising.

It's a great idea, Balaa! It's something every flyer out there can relate to. Hmm, at the moment, the angle makes it look like the cub is on a branch behind Mum. I think you should bring it forward more. Can't wait to see the final product! ^_~

I think though... maybe the kit should actually be in flight. And Mom should look satisfied and proud. Aware that her baby is soaring, and perfectly fine with it.

Awesome! That is so extreamly cute and meaningfull. People are always telling me to grow up and telling me what I should draw. But I don't wanna grow up and I wanna draw cats! When I was little I thought it would be cool to fly and I always wanted to go to neverland with Peter Pan, so that I never had to grow up. I have always had dreams and had been focused on those dreams, still am. My mother works with computers, but I never wanted to work with computers. My father is a farmer, but I never wanted to farm. I've always wanted to be an artist and work with cats. I have dreams to go to California to go to a art collage and go to different anthro conventions. And go to places around the world to study cats, but I live in Minnesota and feel like I'll never be able to leave. My parents like here and thier parents are. I feel like I'll be trapped here my whole life. I wanna soar like the little snow leopard.

Beautiful. Both the sketch and the idea. Kids these days, teenagers especially, want to grow up too fast. I'm sixteen, but I have no desire to grow up and face the real world, honestly. I like being a kid. (:

I think this is wonderful. I love the angle and perspective of the wings on the baby. And I understand the cliche, I have always definitely wanted to fly on large wings. I used to have frequent dreams about it.

One thing that stood out and stabbed me in the eye (mainly because I'm a bird person) is the wings. The flight feathers are inside out! The outermost primary should be on the bottom when the wing is seen from behind. I just had to point that out because I hate it when I see amazing peices with that one flaw.
I love the concept and layout, although the balance looks a little top-heavy. The dark branch needs something in the bottom to balance it out.
I can't wait to see the finished version! If the sketch is any indication, the finished product is going to be mind-blowingly beautiful.

I'm completely in love with the concept and the symbolism of it. Its a great idea and I can't wait to see the end result.
I'm really trying to think of any advanced critique I would have for it, but theres really only one thing that bugs me out of the whole thing. That is the position of the left wing, to me at least, seems kind of oddly placed.

I like how everything is laid out in the pic,
how my eyes are drawn from the mother cat to the cub (at least thats how my eyes fallow),
and of course the idea behind it. I also can relate easily!

I love that idea! I especially like the idea of the mother snow leopard allowing her child to soar, even though she can't. It kind of reminds me of how things with myself and my mother. I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job and I'd love to see the final product.
I can't really think of any critique except that maybe the cub's tail could be longer? I know snow leopards tend to have very long tails. *shrug* I could be wrong, but that's the only thing that really struck me.
You know, this kind of gives me an idea for a story. *facepalm* Inspiration comes from all kinds of sources. One of your other pieces inspired me, too.
