I like the brightness and delcate greens and yellows. In the words of Robert Capa, "If your photos are bad, you're not close enough." Macro gives these words a whole new meaning .

This is really pretty. Almost seems like you're in an alien world with the little buggy-boo it's only inhabitant. Well done.

Love the colors and rule of 3rds but I agree with you the swallow depth takes a bit from the photo. Those bugs are so cute though, amazing how small they are but how your lens shows them

it's true, dof can be a problem with this kind of phtography.

So this kind of shot is the macro experiment you were talking about. Let me put it simple: I love it. I know just what you mean by saying, it's like seeing a whole different world, or maybe, the real word (based on "what things really look like").
Amazing.
I see two bugs, and a dot that might be the third.

yes, it's one of my first experiments. it's fun. but only a part of the shots i take are of acceptable quality. the dof is so shallow that even with fast shutter times you risk to move the camera. not enough to blur the shot, but enough anyway to have the subject out of focus. i need more practice
there are three bugs actually. see the 1:1 crop ...

Yeah, it's all about practise. Though maybe a tripod could help too? Just for the steadness - it's hard to keep REALLY steady without one, and if you move just a slight bit that may change the shot completely.
I tried finding the 3 bugs, but only 2 of them I see clearly. Is the third one out of focus? Right on the top edge, on the left side, could that be it?

yes, a tripod would help. more, it would be a requirement, but often it is impractical to use it outdoor, when you wnat to catch a lower in the middle of a bush, or an insect that doesn't listen when you ask to stand still...
did you look at the 1:1 crop? two of the bugs are in the left lower corner, a smaller one before a bigger and darker one. the third bug is on the right, alone, and clearly visible

yes, it was.
well to say the truth, the lens is not home made: i just mount it reversed. the lighting device is homemade instead... i will upload a tutorial soon.
thanks for your comment!
