Yeah. We're no longer selling it. Not making enough of a profit. Haha!

Is there anyway you can put it back up on iTunes, and remove the OpenFeint and replace it with Game Center? Just wondering.

Unfortuately I can't at the moment. It costs too much and I don't make enough in return to turn a profit. I only did the artwork for the game, so I wouldn't know how to change it to Game Center.

the animation doth kick ass, but i think i prefer the colored lines. i know its irrelevant now, the fact stands that you are an animation master

Thanks for the kind words. I stuck with the black lines because I felt they would show up better on the iPhone. But yeah, I'm a fan of selflines as well.

Hm, man I think you can take a frame (or 2) out of the hold in the jump. Timing isn't consistent. Seems like a way cool game!

basakward In reply to cat-hicks [2009-11-08 21:59:10 +0000 UTC]
I was shooting for that kind of floating moment with the legs spinning quickly and he shoots off when he makes contact with the ground. As far as the timing being inconsistant, I like varying the major beats of the motion, I feel it makes it a little more organic, less robotic.
I feel the first bounce is still the weakest part though, perhaps if I made his legs scramble quicker while in the air during the first bounce I would have gotten the idea across better.
Thanks for the crit!

I don't think it's the legs, I still think it's the hold in the air. I agree that varying the timing makes things more organic, but right now it looks at if the first jump is obeying a separate set of physics rules than the rest of the animation.

You up for constructive critique? I know how useless it can feel to pick at it after it's a done deal, but you know I can't shut off my analytic eye even if I wanted to.
It is really good, no question, but I don't think you need to be told that.

It's really only one thing: I love the action on the hamster, but the open mouth keys on the snake don't seem extreme enough. The second bite in particular is too quick and the motion too small, I actually had to go back frame by frame to be sure of it at all. Other than that, I think it's pretty great.
Meh. What's done is done, one can only move forward.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
basakward In reply to Inkthinker [2009-11-11 01:30:22 +0000 UTC]
Haha, that "second" bite wasn't even meant to be a bite, his mouth was just supposed to open in the transition from the right of the screen to the left. But now that I look at it, I can see how that could be misinterpreted.
I agree, I could have pushed the first bite more. I was struggling with the few amount of frames I had to work with, I think I just lost sight of the drawing itself.
But now that you mention it, I should have put more thought into the movement from the right to the left with the snake. That was just me throwing in unnecessary secondary motion. Good call, man!

Inkthinker In reply to basakward [2009-11-11 02:40:09 +0000 UTC]
I liked the idea of the chomp-chomp action, it just needed to be more extreme in order to read in those few frames.
All too easy to get caught up in the stacks, especially when you're a one-man show. I'm pretty sure nobody but me is coarse enough to hassle you about it.

Though maybe the first bite the snake does can be pushed a bit? even though its a secondary character.

I hear that. I think I got distracted with trying to fit it into the time frame. I always gotta' remind myself drawings come first, timing second.
Thanks for the crit! I appreciate it!

i have a question...
if you have to have transfer to a college, with what degree do you need to have to go to learn such animation later on????
nice animation btw....

basakward In reply to TruthfulLife [2009-11-06 15:24:12 +0000 UTC]
I went to the Art Institute of Colorado and got a Bachelor's Degree of Media Arts and Animation, but I will admit that a lot of the animation I did while in college was more self-motivated. And even then I didn't really learn how to get as advanced as I currently am until I got some industry experience. One college that I see a lot of good 2D work come out of is Calarts.

hmmm interesting
what do you exactly mean by self-motivated...
anyway... where can i find one in illinois by any chance?
hope to hear more from you

By "self-motivated", I mean that you have to do research on your own, do more practice than a class requires you to do, the whole "go the extra mile" thing..
I don't know what the schools in your area are, try a google search.
