Description
Those of you who've ever had the privilege to use a cintiq for any length of time can attest to the fact that it is not only super awesome and convenient, but also seems to generate heat equivalent to that of a thousand burning suns right underneath your drawing arm. This by no means hinders the awesomeness of the cintiq, it just makes working from home in 100-degree weather super great.Related content

I think the heat problem various between Cintiq's. I have the Cintiq 13 HD (none touch version) and it doesn't seem to generate much if any heat at all.Β

I sacrificed some of the levels of pressure sensitivity that would come with a cintique but a Lenovo X201 doesn't have this problem... and its half the price. its really good for working away from the office. Β

Hah! Funny you should mention that, I purchased a Lenovo tablet PC about a year after I made this comic! SO good!! And actually, the cintiq I'm using is a DTU710 which has the same 512 lvls of sensitivity as the Lenovo. Now I get the best of both worlds

that sounds about right, theΒ DTU710 is difficult to find unlike the Lenovo x201, the screens are pretty much the same other than the cintiq having a larger surface area but the advantage of the x201's portabilityΒ outweighsΒ that factor. you should take a look at Lenovo's newer models of the X201, they look promising.Β

It took me about a week working with a cintiq to really get the hang of it. Admittedly I wasn't crazy about it the first time I sat down with one, but as I continued to work with it it really grew on me. Until by the end of the week I was in loooove. I highly recommend it if you've got the means, it's become an invaluable tool in my arsenal!

Hmm thanks so I'm guessing you had a graphics tablet prior which made the change easier?
Also, love your gallery.

I did! I worked with an intuos tablet for years before trying the cintiq, I'm sure it helped but I don't imagine it's a requirement.
And thank you!

yeah cintiq is really amazing, but forget about the melting arm, my eyes start burning and a brain cancer starts to grow if I remain working for several hours... is like staring at a monitor 10 cm away from it... but besides that is totally worth it

I'd recommend a fan or something, electronic things can shut down and break.

Hehe. Funny, because the laptop I am using now will overheat, if it gets too cold I let it overheat. Sooo toasty and warm.

Dunno if it applies here, but I wear a sock on my arm when using a tablet on a humid day, to prevent sticking.

yeah! I got myself a thing called a smudge guard, which is basically a glove with all the fingers minus the pinky cut out. I cant live without it!

Highly recommended! Though in a pinch there is always the budget version of just cutting the fingers off of an old cotton glove lol

Oh wow! I hadn't thought of the pencil-lead implications. I actually switched over to drawing in blue lead just because the waxy texture didn't smudge. XD
Thanks for the link.
