Description
Those of you who've ever had the privilege to use a cintiq for any length of time can attest to the fact that it is not only super awesome and convenient, but also seems to generate heat equivalent to that of a thousand burning suns right underneath your drawing arm. This by no means hinders the awesomeness of the cintiq, it just makes working from home in 100-degree weather super great.Related content

Ya could just put a piece of cloth under your arm (if it slips off then use a strap ya find or somethin, be creative XD).
BTW What's a Cintiq? (That big tablet kind of thing on the picture I'm not that slow thank you very much. But still what is it? XD)

Hah! Now THIS is a familiar sight. I've had the privilege of using Cintiq's since they were first launched about 4 or 5 years ago. And in the studio, we've had each of the revised versions of it throughout it's evolution. One thing that has remained a constant is the furnace underneith your arm. Thay ARE getting better with each new model, and by far the worst was the first model. (I really think of it as a prototype model really). On my desk at work is the latest model and I adore it. However it still does have a hot spot in the center-top edge. At least it isn't under my drawing arm any more.

Yeah this is an older DTU-710 model and it gets pretty blazing hot! I'm not actually sure this is even a cintiq, closest thing to it is listed under the "specialty industries" category on the Wacom website haha. It's pretty bare-bones and is only 17" but it works like a charm and I love it!

Oh heck ya! There's nothing quite like a Cintiq. I use mine for classical 2D animation, and the thing is like having that imaginary magic piece of animation paper that can instantly play back, cut, copy, paste, and most importantly - UNDO. Now, what I REALLY want, is for Wacom to come out with a tablet PC of their own, powerfull enough to run Photoshop and animation packages like Flash and ToonBOOM. THAT would be a digital artists f'n WETDREAM!! Umm.. Maybe that's a little bit of overshare.. >_> Anyway.. I'm sure you get my meaning.. *^_^*

I hear you there, man. The cintiq made using the pencil tool in flash for the character designs I do @ work graduate from The Worst Thing On Earth to Almost Bearable! I would LOVE a wacom tablet pc. That really WOULD be orgasmic. *_*

Im curious does a cintiq have computer capability such as internet?? o.o

basalt In reply to witch13888 [2010-07-23 22:56:41 +0000 UTC]
It's essentially a monitor you can draw directly on! So it'd have to be hooked up to a computer to be of any use. Something like a tablet pc would be a portable version

Cintiq owner here, I can definitely attest to that. I found, however, that the areas that you normally keep your arm on tend to be cooler overall... that may be super obvious to most but I'm still intrigued by it. Also, I don't do the tablet justice... yet... like, at all... so shame on me.

the east coast heatwave is horrible in the past week it's been hotter than quito, singapore, and congo, -- cities that are directly on the equator.
even in April when I can to visit it was surprisingly around 85+F, while the week before was in the 40s.
i suggest installing a kiddie pool in your apartment.
