If I may start a discussion, I absolutely agree with you. Lapis to me is a very nuanced character, she has good parts and bad parts, she's a victim but also did things that were way out of line (see: breaking greg's leg, trying to drown steven and connie, trying to kill the crystal gems). She also wasn't willing to fight for steven at the end of jailbreak, she immediately tried to flee. But I chock that up to fear, I think it's completely reasonable.

Lapis is layered and has faults. Admittedly, I like her a lot less than when I drew this.  Not really because I reevaluated her or anything, but because the fandom on tumblr drove me up the wall with how they characterized her.  I'm so sick and tired of seeing "Lapis is a perfect cinnamon roll that did nothing wrong, she's just a victim". No! Lapis did things wrong, Lapis is flawed, that's what makes her interesting and a good character.  Those same people will blindly defend lapis and then completely slander characters like jasper and peridot, who did bad things but were also just doing their jobs and are generally ignorant.

tldr: I love canon lapis but fanon lapis annoys me to death, which makes me love canon lapis less.

My pleasure for it, and no no, please continue if you want. I'd be happy to hear more, and I know that a lot of people, me included act as if Lapis has done nothing wrong. I know she has, and I know the same about Jasper and Peridot, but I guess I like them so much I don't focus on all the bad things they've done. But I like to think they've all done those things because they had their reasons along with the mere fact that they look down on Earth.

They all have faults, but at the same time you can see some reason in what they've done. At least I can, and I try to defend those three while knowing what they've done and at least seeing why. It's a bit dumb to be defending any of them without even considering the other side of the picture and I think that's what some people don't understand. That in order to defend someone you have to know both sides before taking a stand, which is what makes their arguments invalid, not to mention annoying to read or hear.

That's what makes them such great characters, their past and motives are very checkered but we try to figure them out. I agree with you as well, and you're welcome once again.
