Description ...Plus one human of average height for comparison purposes.

Well, it started out with just Mehk and Irika, then I threw in Tes, then before I knew it there was this mess and I still keep thinking 'just one more'.

So'koe and Sobe don't really belong here, they're from a time period around 200 years earlier. All the rest come from the same time, though not the same places and a bunch aren't important at all or even have nothing to do with the PC storyline. But they're pretty and I felt like drawing them, so there.

Giant wall of text, going in order from left to right:
--------------------------------------------------------------

So'koe is not a typical female skithtiri specimen, she's right up there in the top 10 largest ever to exist. She rules her brood with an iron..uh... limb, and is completely intolerant of insubordination.

Sobe is a spoiled brat, one of many granddaughters to the incredibly rich and politically powerful owner of Koe industries. She likes shopping and pranks, and isn’t overly fond of responsibility or waking up before noon.

You wouldn’t guess it, but Tes is a bit of a rebel as demonstrated by her refusal to cover her neck. Among her kind, her current outfit is akin to running the errands in a bikini. She’s disbarred from medical practice on her homeworld due to suspicious circumstances surrounding the death of a corrupt politician who’d come in for a routine checkup…

Irika is a human of average height for comparison, around 5’7. As a personal note, she’s quite narcissistic and aggressive. As of late she's been trying to become a better person, mostly by directing her vicious tendencies strictly towards those that deserve it.

Mehk is pretty average in size and build for a lellian. He’s 1/4th medessian(closely related but separate species on Lequin), which mostly shows in his eye and fur color, long mane, and shortened muzzle.

Bob… Oh, Bob. Everything I try to write about it threatens to turn into a three thousand word essay on the bizarreness of sqilt biology or culture. Let’s just say that Kshkjakshii is a black sheep even amongst other parasitic clone-colony fungal organisms.

Quara enjoys making others uncomfortable with her flirting, but actually she’s a typical asexual t’sun of her species. She tends to have problems with her weight a lot.

Rex(Graxxdari'ihr) and his aging mother are the only dirragas on Gestalt. The infrastructure really isn’t set up for people their size, so they often have trouble getting around and usually have to have their shopping delivered since they rarely fit through doors. His species sleeps a lot to conserve energy. He keeps his leg wing feathers clipped short to avoid knocking stuff over, which is considered incredibly strange and ugly by his cultures' standards. He doesn't care.

Derak is over eighty years old but only middle-aged for a nanuran. His favorite hobby is studying alien cultures and languages, followed by sports.

S’mor loves to read and would like to own a garden some day. She’s quite practical and responsible, despite what stereotypes about streetwalkers might lead one to assume.

Ritcha is a pretty and charismatic medessian/lellian hybrid who was once a model, but found religion with a vengeance after a near death experience. He's also cripplingly narcissistic and prone to sociopathic behaviour, though he makes an effort to curb his worst tendencies.

Blackie is part of Ritchas family-like inner pack(as opposed to the larger group of only loosely affiliated individuals that make up his pack proper) and has a lot of freeze branded markings, the lellian equivalent of tattoos. Also, her name isn’t Blackie but if I don't care there's less than no reason for you to.

Kihrta is a giant for his species. He’s also a gay ex-military guy nearing middle age, so there are very, very few rhoha secure or delusional enough in their power to accept him into their pack. He puts up with a lot under Ritcha, but deep down he’d be terribly bored with a normal/sane rhoha.

Leven is the Sko-Rhoja of the major lellian colony Wrestis. Basically, it’d be like if someone in South America appointed themselves as pope and successfully forced the locals to support them until they were as powerful as the Vatican pope.

Lorai is a hateful creature. Having your mate get murdered and eaten then the courts assign a mere fine to her killers because she never passed her sapience test tends to embitter a person. He’s also quite the accomplished chemist…

Paku was born without arms and has been shuffled around Gestalt foster care her whole life. She’d never have survived to puberty among her own kind, but there are programs on the lellian homeworld that will pay to send slightly disabled children away to places where they’ll have a better shot at life. Alas, aliens typically aren’t prepared for the overwhelming difficulty of raising an obligate carnivore that requires but does not want to eat organ meats and insects, sleeps in 3-hour bursts 3 times a day(and usually sleepwalks in a straight west-bound line), can’t be trusted around small animals, and is prone to suddenly dying of heart failure with no warning if they don’t get enough exercise and their diet is less than optimal. Oh, and their default nature is pretty similar to ADHD, and they have to eat a ton to keep up their required constant activity levels and body temperature(110 degrees). Also, many of them go through a really violent stage around puberty(8-9 years old) and can be surprisingly dangerous if they turn on you. By the way, they reach almost their full adult height right around then too.

Other than that, they’re great. Can't see why no one has adopted her.

...On an unrelated note, I recently got the notion that I have an unbalanced number of major female villains. After drawing all these out though, I realized it’s a 50/50 ratio.

Is the gryphon-dog thing sentient, or is he Rex's pet? He doesn't look like he has any decent manipulators. Maybe he's hiding them under his fur...?

I guess that Ritcha was a pretty okay Lellian/Medessian before he turned into a religious fanatic? What religion does he believe in anyway?

How closely related are the Lellians and Medessians anyway? Are they just subspecies of each other?

Why is Paku armless? He looks like he at least has stubs, anyway. WOuldn't be much useful for manipulation tho.

What species is S'mor?

Thanks for the questions~ :3

The fingers are double-jointed and have 2 opposable 3-jointed thumbs with no pads on each side of the hand, so they can manipulate objects pretty well as long as they're sitting still. If they need to carry something while moving, they have a skin pouch like a marsupial(it's a little sweaty and gross though, so a purse would be better).

Ritcha was an absolutely insufferable narcissistic monster incapable of maintaining a single personal relationship, becoming a Skollian fanatic after a health scare was actually a step up in terms of his emotional maturity. The sect he follows(most popular on Wrestis and not the lellian homeworld) believes that their collective species have stagnated and need to be shaken up, and that the dominant dakaltre-controlled government is treating Lequin-natives very unfairly for something that happened 2 centuries ago.
More specifically, he believes that sacrifices to Skoll will bring him luck and opportunities as long as the end goal is the advancement of their species.

The two species are about as close as a sheep and a goat. They look similar and can interbreed, but the offspring are often sterile and sometimes they aren't put together too well.

Paku was born that way, but if you meant the dinosaurian-looking dude they manipulate objects with their tail, beak, and feet, and most of the species isn't considered sapient. Most preet are about as intelligent as a chimp or raven, but certain populations have a high number of geniuses.

S'mor is a dakaltre, they've been exploring space for about 3.5 thousand years and pretty much run this arm of the galaxy. Individuals are just regular people, but as a species overall they have certain advantages like being allowed to travel nearly anywhere they want. Planets and colonies can't deny a dakaltre immigrant without really good reason or the entire massive empire might make life difficult for them.

Which one is Paku if he isn't the preet then?

So, are dakaltres the rulers of all the other species in the setting, or are they just a massive empire that has lots of smaller ones in its shadows?

I'd also like to hear more about the Skollian religion; what is it's god like, what are some of its beliefs and practices etc. How has the Lellian psyche affected their philosophical and religious beliefs in general?

Paku is a lellian born without arms. Lellian children can be pretty vicious when they're little and usually end up eating any siblings or friends that are at a obvious physical disadvantage(all it takes is a little bad luck and for everyone in the pack to be distracted for a couple minutes). So there are programs to adopt children with certain conditions out to aliens. Also, Lequin doesn't have the best infrastructure for complex medical care...

Dakaltre aren't really adapted for ruling. It's a very loose sort of empire held in check by a computer they built to help them govern, plus hundreds of colonies that are mostly independent but still allied. They tend to have a hard time with hierarchies and aren't very cooperative. The only reason they're the dominant power is because they had a 2000 year head-start on expanding their influence. There's trillions of them on hundreds of colonies, plus massive fleets of exploration vessels.
As a species, they're uninterested in wars unless they stand to personally gain a whole lot. They can't be roped into risking their life for patriotism or abstract ideals, but they're happy to send privateers to decimate the shipping of groups or colonies that have offended them. Mostly they just want to explore, collect information, and be the best at whatever their individual goals are.

Wonderful, I love talking about world building~ <3
There are two primary gods that represent the binary stars that Lequin circles, and the religion is mostly a large series of stories passed down for thousands of years. Shija represents the smaller, brighter star and is the first rhoha(packleader), Skjoll is the larger, colder star who would like to take Shija's place, then there are a bunch of smaller gods representing aspects of Lequin and character archetypes.

Their stories are usually allegories on how to handle pack dynamics, and/or explanations on why things are the way they are. Like, Nasquasl represents the Lequin-equivelant of a vulture which are considered holy to obligate carnivores. She doesn't get along with Shija at all but adores Skjoll. When Shija viciously attacked her for flirting with her subordinate, Nasquasl had her 'vulture' children poison the best part of a fresh carcass in Shija's path for revenge, and that poison is the reason why rhoha are nearly sterile.

When the economy and life in general is going well, then Shija is depicted as being good and just(preventing Skjoll from doing mean or stupid things, managing pack dynamics well, various stories focusing on her good will towards mortals as opposed to Skjoll wanting to eat everyone), but if there's a lot of uncertainty or fear going around then Skjoll and his stories about change become more popular(tricking or confronting Shija when she's being power-hungry and unreasonable, running away until she concedes to demands, rewarding particularly bold mortals who defy her will for perfect stability).

Some sects believe that sacrifices can give one or another god more power or influence, or gain their favor. There was one relatively brief point where a lot of people were getting captured for sacrifice, but modern lellians would be horrified by the idea, and now the sacrifices are just small symbolic things like the first bite of their meal or a few drops of blood from their finger. Ritcha would like to bring alien sacrifices back into fashion though.

Are there separate cults dedicated to both Shija and Skjoll/Skioll, or are the Skjollian cults looked upon by the mainstream Shijaian body with fear and suspicion? Does it in fact go both ways?

I like how the Lellians sing the praises of Shija when things are going well, and yet curse her name and go to Skioll when things go south. Seems to reflect our own attitudes toward life sometimes.

Also, judging from your line about Ritcha wanting to sacrifice aliens in lieu of actual lellian sacrifices, are the lellians generally that xenophobic, or is it just a minority view, like racism nowadays on earth?

They're basically the same religion and both gods are important, so someone that thinks Shija is more important and powerful will still pray to the normally useless and petty Skjoll if they're about to make a big change in their life, or vice-versa to the tyrannical Shija if things are going well internally in a pack but some outside problem is looming. Some sects don't pick favorites at all. For the most part there isn't a lot of in-fighting, but some sects are considered weird cults and no one one outside of those groups really want to interact with or have them around, a bit like how Jehova Witnesses are viewed.

Lellians have a weird relationship with xenophobia, they tend to be very mistrustful and sometimes violent towards new people(other lellians too) but they warm up quickly and will adopt aliens into their packs very easily if one is just sort of in close proximity for a while. For a long time their homeworld was pretty dangerous for visiting aliens, but in the last few decades there was a big cultural shift caused in part by adding aliens to the casts of popular media so that the citizens could get used to the idea of interacting with different kinds of people without being thrust straight into a live test the first time they encountered a tourist.

Pretty much their only independent colony, Wrestis, used to be very friendly towards aliens but has been going the other way really fast. Most alien colonies won't accept immigrants from Lequin without a voucher from Wrestis, so the colony is filled over capacity with homeworld lellians trying to go to other places and Wrestis citizens feel like they're being punished for homeworld crimes that occurred 200 years earlier. That environment spawned some extremist groups like Ritcha's, which are being encouraged and funded by the Skjollian religious leaders.

WOW you have quite the collection of vibrant and interesting characters! Although it's a little small to see every delicious detail, I can see enough and tell you what they're all so unique and beautiful.
