Description So, my art teacher was askin me how to do what I do, and I've had a few other people ask as well, never going into much detail, so here is a tutorial. Took me longer than I expected to do this. Also, I've put off doing an important project due one week from now that is taking me forever! Oh well. I just wasnt in the mood to cut today.

+ if you spot any errors or something, let me know please.

I've used illustrator to print them out, all you do is move your image around the page, and then whatevers there will print. Then I just tape them together.

Or, you can use fedex-kinkos to print large scale black and white image. (the printer is 2 feet wide, so aslong as one side falls under that, you'll be good.)

Just the way i do it. Maybe you could write some about the spraying part if you want. The spraying patern/what kind of cap to use (fat vs skinny)/high vs low can pressure/applying adhesive spray, etc.

A lot of people write about creating stencils but they forget the bridges part (which is quite important), so that's definitaly a plus.

I'm going to create my first multilayer one in the next few days. I'll try to print it in illustrator. Never did that before (i've used the Printing Wizzard stuff in WinXP).

Nice tutorial. I didn't know about the threshold part before, so that part is really helping my stencil making!

Cheers!

glad I could help, I always find that threshold brings out the pictures light and dark values better, and it gives better detail, which is why I use it.

Cool. I discovered that the Stamp filter also helps a lot with separating light and dark values pretty smoothly.
Thanks again.

What a way to knock out the essay, kid. I'm jealous. I might even steal the whole tutorial idea for that. Whoa nelly.

You're using illustrator for this, yeah?

Thanks.

well you can buy photoshop illustrator, But I dont know how much it is, or you can torrent it, but I believe thats against the law.

As far as cut out goes, I find it is sometimes too choppy/block like. Thats how I did my self portrait. After that I used this way, and my stencils have improved quite a bit. The threshold allows you to have more freedom, and gives it a nice, smooth feel too it.

As far as illustrator goes, I only use it for printing, its pretty easy, the canvas size is a sheet of paper already, so all you have to do is align your image in the dotted lines, print it, and If you have a bigger image, move it over 8 inches or so for the width, and about 10 for the height. After that all you have to do is cut and tape.

Also, I checked out your stencils, they are pretty good.. I noticed you have a bit of underspray here and there, and if you want to prevent that, you can weigh down parts that stick up with coins and washers, or you can use spray adhesive. ^^

Anyways I hoped this helped, sorry for the late response.

Ah. It's just that your photoshop must look different from mine.

Yeah, essay. The thing we have to write about our art-creating intentions... But I think he would TOTALLY take this instead of that. Don't sweat it.
