A lot of aspiring comic artists seem to focus only on style, and not much on storytelling and characterization. Being a comic book artist not only requires the ablilty to draw, but also, the ability to tell a story. And to be able to tell a story visually, you have to be able to give life to the characters- make them look more animated and energized on the page.
One way to do it is through exaggeration. You can give life and energy to the most simplest and boringest situations, and you can apply this to any style. See above and compare the actions on the left with those on the right. I think you'll agree that it's really not that difficult. And I'm not exaggerating!
This was actually part of my lecture during last week's seminar, but I don't think the audience was able to see these clearly so I'm posting it here for your convenience. ^__^ Hope this helps folks!

Well, I don't recall the exact quote, or who said it, but it was more about the field of animation than just drawing, but you've proved it applies there as well

Nah I've seen lots of submissions of this type in the tutorial section. It will be more helpful to put this there because deviants usually go there to learn and this is something that will help them too

I have to say this, the woman in the bottom two makes me think of the Baroness and she's chewing out Destro for forgetting their anniversary (or there kid's Birthday and yes they have a kid now, just our US Government kidnapped it)

Couldn't agree more sa lesson mo,very helpful indeed although sometimes it's also good to know the left side illustrations well before going to exaggerate them,kasi most of the comic artist I see today sometimes draw super exaggerated scenes when the scene just tends the character to be very normal lng naman.

well exaggeration is just one way to do it. There are other ways of course, like the left side illos which are basically using "body language"(hope I can tackle them later, too.)
There is such a thing as overexaggeration of course, but I find most of the stuff(esp in indie artists) lack energy and that "umph!" so I decided to start off with exaggeration.

(^-^) Medyo I'm not drawing anymore for the past 4 months because of a very busy schedule & cguro na burn out na ako of improving...I hope I can get inspiration again & that spark na to draw again.

that thing on cloud's arm is a "bishie-effect" ribbon... you tie it on bishies when their clothes are too loose so that you can see how slim they really are...and when things get out of hand, it can be used by sephi to tie cloud (to the bedstand) by the wrists.
Sephiroth still looks like he's gonna kiss cloud.
Love the "Integral" character.
