Description
Here it is, in all its painted glory : The Daedric Greatsword from Skyrim. Definitely one of my favorite video game swords ever, the Deadric Greatsword has been one Iv'e been wanting to make for a while now. It was only recently that I felt I had sufficient skills to pull it off. I'll be honest, I'm very happy with the way it turned out.The painting took about two days and consists of a coat of gloss black spray paint and then drybrushing silver acrylic on certain areas to achieve that "metal" look. Everything is made from MDF except the rope which I literally found outside on the floor. I hot-glued it on and voila, a more authentic handle. I must admit that I really enjoy swinging this thing around, at four feet long it's certainly a two handed sword. It's heavy enough to feel like your holding something authentic, something real but not heavy enough to make swinging it difficult.
The unpainted version can be found here : www.deviantart.com/art/Daedric…
All in all, I'm very happy with the completed result and I hope you guys agree. I've already got another project lined up and if it turns out well, I might even make a tutorial for it.
until then,
see ya

*heavy breathing* .... This is beautiful! I LOVE the carving detail on the pommel and hand guard, and the rope is a brilliant touch. I'm also a sucker for realistic paint job and sir, you pulled that off. Congratulations on a job well done!

This is amazing! I've been following your work for a while now and your wood work is always so flawless!
I also work with MDF, because it just so easy to work with, but I find it a hard material so prime. When you sand MFD it, ofcourse, uncovers its soft inside and that just sucks up my paint every time. I still haven't found good way to 'seal' the mdf before priming it. Could you perhaps share some tips on how to approach this dilemma? When I look at your unpainted version, I see you've covered the MDF with something, so I was wondering how you tackle that problem
Thanks so much in advance!

Thanks so much for the compliment
As for how I seal my MDF, I use Glauter (yes, I made up the word )
It's basically a mixture of Wood glue and water. Usually I will use slightly more glue than water but you might want to experiment to find a ratio that works for you. I then apply two to three coats of the stuff and then sand the parts that need it with high grit sand paper. After the coats, the prop should have a "plasticy" feel to it and that is when you know it is properly sealed. I hope that helps
Also may I say your cosplays are truly amazing

Really? Water with wood glue does the trick? OMG, I only used only wood glue for my first prop and it didn't look as great as I wanted it to be ^^', so I skipped wood glue of my list xD never thought of it to use it on a 1:1 ratio with water. And it's still sandable? I tried to sand wood glue once, but it ripped all apart and such. But maybe it wasn't hard enough. Thanks a bunch for the help! This will help me making my props even look better
And thank you for the compliment on my cosplays!

No prob, and make sure that the glauter mixture is "completely" dry before sanding. After the first coat dries the wood will be rough. Lightly sand it smooth with high grit sandpaper before applying another coat. On the second or third coat, it will dry smooth and won't require any sanding. This is when you can be certain your prop is sealed and ready for painting.
good luck, and may all your projects be properly sealed

Whenever you get the chance, I'd love to see a Stalhrim sword or Glass Mace/War Axe or even the Nordic Battleaxe! 83 honestly, I have too many favorite weapons, both in game and modded, to list to I'm keeping it to those xD

Perhaps...I"m thinking about making a nordic weapon but I don't think I have a good paint to achieve that "ice" look on Stalrim weapons.

I'm afraid I can't sell it, or any of my props from this country.. Hopefully once I move in about three months, I can then start shipping my projects.

Which Country do you live in? North Korea?

Ha ha, no. I am currently living in UAE (United Arab Emirates.) I can ship things out of the country but it would have to be on a freight ship and the cost would be WAY too much. Other services like FedEx and Aramex won't do it for.... some reason that they won't give me a straight answer about. That coupled with the language barrier makes trying to do anything like that a huge pain in this country.

Thanks, I tried to make it as authentic as possible by using real dirty rope I found outside on the floor
