This is perfect for me! I've always wanted to learn how to better tie in the colors of my pieces and this is PERFECT!

Very nice! :3 Quick question: what size brush did you use for the line art?

Ummm probably five? I can't use too big of a canvas; my computer can't handle it.

Hey there,
More than a year layer and I am finally doing a piece with this guide (I'm slow, ha)
I have a question regarding the flat color step and the line layer (step 3) . What technique do you use to paint the ares that the lines so the pixels are filled for step 9? Do i just paint over/under the sketch so that when that layer is turned off later, it will be filled? Or do i just worry about that after i turn it off at that later step where you said to?
My worry is that I will turn off the sketch line, and I will have tons and tons of lines of the gradient showing through because that area is now empty, allowing the lower layers to show through. I know i should just avoid Β by not being so strict with staying within the lines, but thats how I am. Let me know what you think.Β
Thank you for your time.Β

I'm sorry but I don't understand your question? Could you please explain?

An example is in order.
Say, following your guide, I sketch and line a cube. I choose cube's lines to be blue. The background is white. I fill in the cubes sides with red as per the flat color instructions and staying in the lines. I forego the shadow steps to get to part 9, where I remove the lines. From my perspective, I now have a red cube with white lines because the background now shows through the gaps where the blue lines used to be. An issue like this doesn't come up in your visuals for this guide. Korra's lines are removed and no "gaps" are apparent. My question is in what way did you resolve this?
I could possibly disregard the lines as I fill in the piece's flat colors although that doesn't seem like the best solution as it completely defeats the purpose of the lines layer to guide your brush. Perhaps you did something to the "gaps" when you removed them for the Korra example piece?Β

No, what I did was color the flats in the outside lines, and use the inner lines as a reference later. For the flats, you need the shapes to be completely filled. When painting, you use the lines layer to determine where shapes are, but then you eventually remove them entirely.

This answers my question: Color to the outside lines, thank you so much!
I will have my piece on by October...hopefully...maybe.Β
