Description
This is a lost art that I have always had a fascination with.I have been creating leather bound books now for about 6 years.
I also marble my own paper and sew the headbands. These books follow 16th century techniques with authentic supported cord.
Of course I have added my own techniques to them as well.
Cheers!

I just wanted to make books. I love the simplicity of its contents yet the complexity of a completed creation.
I am self taught with the assistance of tutorials, books videos, and advice from others over the years.
Cheers

Where do you buy the metal pieces? I make mock leather effect books and am yet to find where to buy the metal embellishments.

Some I purchase on Etsy.com and the remainder I create myself.

It's good to see some well crafted books on dA, not just a stack of papers sewn to a chunk of leather

Looking very good, esp the headbands. Where do you source your clasps? What do you mean by "authentic supported cord"? I would be really interested to know how you do that! Kind regards David

thanks, I create my own clasps from various scrap metal and use a petina solution to give them an ages look. They are by far the most time consuming of the whole bookbinding process.
An authentic supported cord is the cord that is swen into the spine and run through the end-board. Great examples are the 15th and 16th century,French & Italian.
I plan on creating a step-by-step. I will put it on DeviantArt soon.
Cheers!

I find it quite amazing that two souls can follow paths in life with ambitions and ideas to one day meet with a common desire. I love to book bind. It is a wonderful escape.
My story is a collection of thoughts from many years gathered together and
released for the world to share.
I am pleased to hear that you will enter the Realm of Gollumeth.
I hope that you enjoy it.
Thank you for the lovely responses.

Thanks for the comment! As for your question, Yes I sell them. I create them custom to the buyer. They can choose how many cords on the spine, color of leather, the type of marbled paper that I create and the paper inside the book as well. They can even request the colors in the hand sewn headbands.
Cheers!
