Description Was mad about the possibility of not getting to go to Anime Expo this weekend... So I decided that, as poor substitute I would create my very own mini, seven-hour convention. Complete with cosplay, pocky, anime-watching and an event schedule that included an opening ceremony (in which the FAILCon torch was lit), a cosplay workshop, sushi experience, and emailing voice actor Vic Mignogna as a substitute for our "industry guest" appearance.

I stayed up until 2 a.m. the previous night making the "con badge" for "pre-registration for the two attendees--me, and my cousin.

And Matt also said he would be there in spirit. I told him that's all he needs to attend FAILCon. And one of my bestest friends Sara (WolfspreeBlue) printed the badge and "joined us" in the FAILCon festivities. She even wore her badge to work! ^__^ It made me happy.

So... yeah. These are the two FAILCon "mascots". The blue-haired guy is Otaku (tres cliche, I know. but that's the point) and the pink-haired girl... I don't have a name for her yet. Probably Chibi-Chan. Stick with the cliche.

I want to draw Otaku and Chibi-Chan again, I think. And Sara's right. We do need an animal mascot.

Yeah yeah! That was the best con ever! Ok best mini-con. I'm tellin ya we need to make this a yearly event. I call it the cross country con! You need an animal mascot too.
I also got two people at work to attend FAILCon. We'll be attending it tomorrow too.

That's awesome! ^__^ I'm so glad it brought joy to what may have been just an ordinary average Friday. Our FAILCon was pretty good too. It was more distracted than what I would have wanted it to be. I had quickly drawn up a schedule of events that I had wanted to put into an actual computer graphic format (designed to look just like the average official con event schedule. But we didn't really stick to our schedule of events. It happened a little more like this:

After work I purchased things to make my Nekozawa cosplay. I went to Judy and Earl's where Doug and I quasi-ceremoniously (in the style of a mini opening ceremony) lit the 2009 FAILCon torch. Then Doug told me that he was going to go for lunch with a friend of his. That wasn't scheduled, but it gave me time to get pocky, candy, and japanese soda from Borders, and to pick up sushi for lunch (which was on the schedule). Then I went back to Judy and Earl's. Doug was on teh internetz. So I had my sushi and japanese soda lunch in his room. We watched Samurai Champloo and Bleach. I worked on my Beelzenef puppet while we watched. Then my aunt came home, and as a "con event/activity" we unloaded the groceries from her car. We continued watching Bleach/working on the cosplay until I had to leave to go to class at 6. And I told Doug to blow out the candle torch thing (that was the extent of our so-called "closing ceremonies" xD)

Fun had by all. So glad your day was great because of it!! I wished I could have done more today too, but work was non-stop as usual... *sigh*

The whole point of this was to make me feel better about not going to Anime Expo, but I still will probably go tomorrow anyway, because my administrator said I could leave early. (srsly, why wouldn't I go?) So... yeah. Even it's job as a "substitute convention" was a failure. So... way to go, FAILCon!! It lives up to its name.

I would love to make FAILCon annual. Or maybe even semi-annual. Either that, or make up other "mini-cons" to supplement throughout the year. We could make another one up together. ^__^

That would be totally awesome. I'd love to make a convention up with you. It would be totally cool if we could get groups together in our various states and watch anime together/ enjoy the convention together. A cross-country convention.
