For those who don't get it, Sally recently got a new "look" in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" comic, and we all know how much Sonic fans love change... (Cue Sonic fans brandishing pitch-forks, and torches) Though what kinda baffles me mostly is, some fans are lamenting that Sally's cheeks are now rounded, instead of fuzzy as they used to be. I keep seeing people commenting on Sally pics going, "Where's the cheek tufts?" and such... (They even made a club dedicated bringing back her cheek fuzz.)I decided to compensate those pining for Sally's fuzzy cheeks.
This fuzzy enough for you?
PS: Li'l geeky fact, as JammerLee pointed out, Sally didn't have cheek fuzz (like Tails) for the first 15 issues (19, if you count the 4-part beginning mini-series) of the Sonic comic actually.
Nor did she in the first "pilot" episoded of Sonic-SatA.M. "Heads or Tails."

Funny pic. Concerning her fuzz, I admit her face looks a little 'empty' without it, but there's loads of other elements I'd complain about diverging too much from her original design first. The lack of actually does make more sense given that, looking at Bates' tweaked version, she resembles her fuzz-less pilot version more now.

While I admit I'll kinda miss her Sonic SatA.M.-ish look, I don't really have anything against the "new" Sally, (I think some are really overreacting over that, which admittedly lead to me making this pic) which as you said kinda looks alot like the older "pilot" version in some ways, only not pink.
I kinda like the outfit though, (kinda helps her look more tomboy-ish) I don't know why some are so upset over her wearing clothes. (I feel the people hating on her now for wearing clothes, and saying she's a "fraud/fake Sally," and such are no better then the people who hates on her for NOT wearing clothes.) I mean I can understand people's preferances, and I can respect that, but it just feels like the "green eyes in Sonic 4" incident all over again to me.
Only thing I don't like about the outfit are the blue bracelet glove thingies, though I suppose they help make her hands look less freakishly huge in a way.

Truthfully most of my complaints with the new Sally are the facial design, which truthfully weren't much better with the previous design. In fact Bates' version with her original almond eyes is arguably better than the previous one (though I still don't like how they merged them into her snout, still seems a superfluous way to make her mirror Cream and Marine more). I'm fine redesigning a character as long as they keep the basic traits that keep the character recognizable, you can actually make a vast redesign and still do so, or make a small redesign and fail as a result.
The only thing that's worrying about this redesign over the others is that it is intended a lot more to be the 'definitive' version from now on, similar to each time they redesigned Bunnie's cyborg limbs. It's permanent and not something that can at least vary or improve with different artists like some previous changes could.

Yeah, I think they kept most of her basic traits in tact, which is why it baffles me how some are trying to say she looks nothing like Sally now, or claim she looks like Amy Rose now, or something... (By that logic all the Sega females probably do.)
Even if it is permanent, I wouldn't worry about it to much, but regardless how she looks, I think some will be upset about it no matter what. Surprisingly, nobody really complained about her "long-hair" phase. Admittedly, I kinda liked the long-hair, though some artists like Yardley (who's actually one of my favorite artists on the comic) didn't do a good job with it, so I can see why they went back to her old haircut.

Well I think it's more the fact she's looking as much like another generic SEGA character as she is herself. Take Bates' initial redesign planned. I don't think it's a good sign when a previously original character can be made this way:

Amy herself has similar controversy with her redesign. Personally, I think most of her SA1 redesign was fine because it made her more individual from Sonic, the only tweak I didn't like was giving her his 'angry eye' expression which subverts this and makes it harder for her to display a unique personality. Same for when Sally has Tails or Cream eyes. It's those little things that are important to making a unique character, probably why so many of Uekawa's previous characters like Silver are considered generic.
Truthfully I think people were more concerned about Sally's much more prominent 'anatomy' than her hair.

Well, one could argue she looked like a generic-Disney character before, so who knows? I think making her looking a Sega-character was intentional, and understandable, as some argued she didn't look like a Sonic character before. I wouldn't go so far as to say she looks like a Marine-recolor though. (Also, nobody really seemed to mind, when Bunnie started to be drawn a bit more Sega-ish, as well.)
To be honest, I think Amy's SA1 redesign was an improvement over her older "pink Sonic" look. She doesn't look that angry to me though, but I suppose they could've made her brow a li'l higher like her "old look." Still personally, I think Amy & Eggman's SA designs were vast improvements.
As for that "anatomy" crack, you might be right.

That makes sense, but still, she was the Disney type first, so that's how many identify her. Still they could have made her more SEGA-ish in a manner that doesn't make her generic, making a design uniform isn't the opposite of making it unique after all. I still think Tazi-San does a brilliant compromise for example. As for Bunnie, maybe it's the fact she always had some errie similarities to Cream's design (the only objection may be having almond eyes similar to Sally). The complaints are mostly down to her cyborg limbs, which were altered ridiculously already (the new ones are admittedly rather generic looking, even by standard SEGA robots, though at least not like curvy ones before).
As said, it's only that change that bothers me really. You have to admit it does make her look more like Sonic at times.
Admittedly concerning Sally, now better tweaks are done, it's more the personality I want to be made more 'retro' now. Maybe she'll return to being 'The Finicky One' now she's more akin to her pilot form.

I like Tazi's art, so I can see your point, but regardless how the redesign was handled, I think people would've complained no matter what honestly.
I don't know Amy's brow looks a bit different then Sonic's still.
Who knows? Though, they said the redesign isn't going to effect her personality. I suppose I wouldn't mind seeing her clash Sonic with a bit more, as long as they don't make her to "bitchy." lol

Well that's true, this IS the Sonic fanbase, but still it would have been better to at least attempt more of a compromise.
While it's not exactly the same so there's a bit of distinction, I still think they should have kept it more unique.
Well, maybe not in outright 'jerk' territory, more that she has a quirkier 'Not So Above It All' side to her. I prefer the idea of her opposing Sonic to a fault rather than just being the level headed and somewhat boring Straight Man all the time.

Perhaps, but I think no matter how much they compromise, some will still be unhappy, and complain for months. Considering people begged for years for them to bring back the old chubby Sonic, and they did in "Sonic Generations," and some still complained about that game for either still having modern Sonic in it, or not making classic Sonic's play control enough like Sonic 1. Even when Sega does listen to their critiques about the series, they find something else to be upset about.
Sonic fans, have got to be the hardest to please fanbase on the internet.
