Description
My sister has Photoshop on her computer, so I decided to check it out, and see what the big deal about it is.I got some advice from my old bud ~China-Hartz on using it. (GO SEE HER ART NOW!)
I decided to color one of my old pics as a test basically. I thought this Super Mario pic should be pretty easy to color. (Boy was I wrong!) I'm not entirelly pleased with the results, (If you look closely neer the outlines, you can make out some white parts.) but I think it turned out okie. I guess I just need more practice.
If anyone has any Photoshop advice, (Or know where I can get some) feel free to send it my way!

YAY! COLOR! It's not that noticable, as long as you don't full view.

I love the colors you chose for this. It reminds me a lot of the box art for Super Mario 3

Well, that is my favorite Mario game. (As cliche as that may sound, considering that's what neerly everyone says.)

Hey Skunky! your first PS drawing! Awesome! I figured that program might appeal to your style. Cartoons are usually done with bright, flat colors and PS can really work for that.
Suggestion: Take full advantage of your zoom tool (looks like a magnifying glass). Its so much easier to get up close to the lines if you magnify the picture. Alt+click will let you zoom down again, and double-clicking the zoom tool icon will bring it back to 100% magnification. I'll send you a note if I think of anything else that might help you.
Awesome first piece! keep it up! I've always loved your style.

There is a tolerance level setting that you can adjust on the fill bucket. Setting it to a low number i think makes it go closer to the llines, filling the gap, but setting it too low, it'll bleed past the line. theres also lots more things you can do , i have several techinques for filling and such.
May i suggest looking up tutorals?

I'm having the same problem right now with a Sonic Heroes picture I'm working on. Shading in Fireworks is very hard to do. Nicely done though.

Awesome, Beau! One tip: Light shadows can add lots of volume on the character. Keep it up!

I'm not very good at doing shadows, and shading to be honest. I always just guess where to put the shading in my older pics. lol

Looks quite good. You'll get better eventually... or something. And the white spaces are... I dunno. But I know it's gotta be easy to get rid of them. AND SAVE AS A PNG!
Hm... Photoshop advice? Well... *Sonic Sez Jingle*

Well, one thing on photoshop is how to get a seperate layer for your lineart. with it, you can colour the image without having white gaps If you want, I can send a note explaining this ^_^

Beau-Skunk In reply to ClosetExtrovert [2006-07-10 03:07:44 +0000 UTC]
Well China already told me a way to seperate the lineart, and stuff, but I guess you can tell me, if it's not to much trouble.

Nice pic though. My sister colors her drawings with Paint Shop. (no, Not Paint Shop Pro. Just that paint that paint thingy)

This so cool XD! I like your rendition of Mario.
If you make a new layer over the linework and change it to "multiply" layer, you can color right over the lines and still have them be visable. It's great since you don't have to worry about the white parts next to the lines.

Beau-Skunk In reply to GrayKioti [2006-07-09 22:02:22 +0000 UTC]
Yeh, China told me how to do something simular to that, (Not sure if the technique is simular to what you're talking about.) though I'm not very good at it yet. lol

I started learning photoshop from this tutorial: [link]
Also, when it comes to filling areas, use the magic wand tool and/or the polygonal lasso tool. Makes it easy! ^^
Nice drawing by the way!

Yes, I had trouble with the white parts near the outlines too when I coloured things on the computer.
Despite that, it looks pretty damn good to me, even for a 'test' pic.

Thanks. I try not to color outside of the lines to much, wich probilly results in that.
