What I want to know is what Celestia and Luna are going to be doing in the meantime. As tempting as it no doubt is to take a vacation, I expect they have resources they can call on even at a time like this. Allies, old secrets, even artifacts. Obviously Sunset's keeping an eye on them, so they can't do anything too clearly or leave Ponyville to do it, but I doubt Celestia's lasted a thousand years on the throne without learning how to be subtle.

I don't know, Sunset sounded anything BUT arrogant in this story. See had a very good reason to keep Celestia and Luna's magic and not returning it. They were the ones who were misusing their power, not her!

Umm... are we reading the same story? She's been sporting a smug smile in most of the panels she's appeared in so far, as well as one where she seems to be outright sneering. She's oozing the 'smug snake' vibe. Plus, as I've said before, the only evidence that her motives are so noble has been what she's said. I won't deny the princesses made mistakes, but it's worth remember that, playing things realistically, villainous leaders aren't all 'mwahaha, I'm evil and I love it!' They're more like 'I'm taking control for the good of all!'
Plus, Tia has a point. Sunset's carrying the power of not one but two alicorns, and it's very easy indeed for that kind of almost literally godlike power to corrupt someone. And, as to your last point, there's no indication either way yet as to whether the events of Equestria Girls actually happened in this alternate canon or not. Based on the evidence at hand, I'm leaning toward not.

It's not a leader's job to be the strongest, be able to stop crisis alone, but to have a plan, ponies and resources ready to deal with anything. IMO Celestia did well by distributing responsibilities.
The best leader is the one who do not want power at all.
(If, of course, Tirek's escape was not Celestia's idea in the first place, to force Twi open the chest)

Twilight Sparkle is the "best" choice for a double-agent, because she is [i]predictable[/i] and [i]honest[/i].
This makes her toothless, and therefore a safe bet for both parties.
Celestia and Luna will know that Twilight's reports will be factually accurate, even if the facts themselves are lies told to Twilight by Sunset Shimmer.
Sunset Shimmer will be happy to keep her because it means that the mole in her court is a known quantity she can plan for, and Sunset Shimmer can also count on Twilight to be an honest, intelligent, useful adviser at the same time!

Problem here is Celestia and Luna were chosen by ponies as their rulers. Sunset wasn't chosen by ponies to rule. I think there will be unrest and Sunset will be Thrown to prison by ponies for usurping throne.

I don't think the sisters were chosen, precisely. But you're right- Celestia is well liked, if not outright loved (a thousand years of stability and prosperity have to count for something), and there will probably be unrest. How Sunset responds to to that will be rather revealing.

Honestly, I'd love to believe that. But I know all too well that one pony that young with THAT much power will eventually misuse it.

To answer your first question, cause she has no one else to trust with these matters. Second, I'm guessing the writer had Sunset leave the Human World during the battle with Tirek to assist in helping Equestria. Who knows, we might learn more later
