Description
Because if Loki doesn't spell 'severe dual personality disorder', I don't know who doesWoof! I looked through my gallery and noticed it's been ages since I last did anything properly realistic! Anyway... whew!
So here we have Avengers Loki directing Thor Loki as his marionette... because I think that's how it is. Two sides of Loki battle, drastically different, and currently one of them keeps winning, while the other is tied to it in despair. I just love Loki's complexity so much!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that loves Loki's challenging personality - it's darkly endearing. Β Even as I kid, I adored this character. Β
You did and AMAZING job illustrating his inner battle. Β
Now if only Marvel would do a movie (or series) on Loki. Β I'd die a happy fan. Β

That is exactly what he does when he projects an illusion of himself to distract enemies... ^^

I love this idea, I just keep staring at it. I'm not usually someone who has a soft spot for villains (my weakness is usually geared towards anti-heroes, like say, Wolverine) but I do feel bad for Loki. Thor still loves him and refuses to let go or give up on him so he must know that his brother is in there somewhere who still loves Thor, is scared, trapped and needs his help, that, or Thor's just an idiot (though a lovable one.) There are times in The Avengers that his old self seems to come out, it's like he's saying how Thor was never his brother and how much he hates him but just for a moment, it's like there's a glimpse of a scared child, wanting his brother to save and comfort him, or how he asks Thor if his family mourned for him, like he just desperately wants to matter to someone.
I've also heard that his eye color changes in the movie, Loki's eyes are originally green but they're blue in Avengers the same color as Hawkeye's when he's under mind-control, but there are a few times when they're green again. As a villain, The Avengers don't even seem to see him as much of a threat. They just think of him as crazy rather than evil and dangerous, Bruce even says, "his head is a bag of cats, you can smell crazy on him." Then when he was locked up, Fury just asks him if he wants a magazine. He seems more like a distraction for something far more sinister and threatening and like a spoiled child who's throwing a tantrum 'cause he doesn't get his way and wants attention or a crazy person who's escaped the loony bin. Poor guy can't even be taken seriously as a villain.
Should probably say something about the art now shouldn't I? I love they're faces, there's such a huge contrast between the two. The sinister/twisted Loki seems to really enjoy hurting and controlling the frightened Loki. The puppet Loki really looks like he's pleading for help, I imagine he's looking at Thor, desperately wanting to be rescued. The concept is really great too, it really looks like there are two different personalities, one controlling or subduing the other.

I really like this portrayal of Loki's personality difficulties. It would have also been interesting if elements of Loki's Jotun appearance had worked their way into one or other of the characters, perhaps even both....

Thank you very much Hmm, I didn't think of the Jotun elements... maybe I'll make another picture with a similar theme, featuring these! Thanks for the iea

I love this piece. The concept is one I've considered before, but after watching both movies a few times and reading more on the character (both in mythology and the Marvel universe) I really don't believe he's got any dual personality conflicts at all, let alone dual personality disorder. He definitely has a severe inferiority complex, and his obsession with being better than Thor (which, in the Marvel universe, eventually evolves into an obsession with killing Thor) is definitely his fatal flaw, but he's not at war with himself. He definitely feels he's the victim, but not of his evil nature, but of everyone else. In his mind everyone has either wronged him, or is just simply wrong, but he's never wrong and therefore has no need for any internal conflict to begin with if he never doubts himself or his actions.
That said though this piece is absolutely beautiful. I love the details in the facial expressions and even the fact that you really made a point of distinguishing the Thor Loki vs the Avengers Loki by even using the different uniforms he wore. A very nice touch.Β

I have two or three views on Loki's personality, and I like what you're saying here Still, a lot of the time it feels to me like Loki is his own prisoner, perhaps not literally a dual personality disorder, but close. Also, this went nice with my idea for this pic

Thank you so much I had a lot of fun drawing this, and I'm happy you like how it turned out!

I normally LOVE the Civil Wars (their music is absolutely beautiful), but I felt they really butchered that song. The Smashing Pumpkins to me is the more emotionally beautiful of the two but to each his own. Fitting song for Loki either way.

This is awesome and wonderful idea (and picture). I just imagine that there is Chitauri leader (The Other) instead of Avengers Loki. We still donΒ΄t know, what happend to him after his failling. I think that his alliance with Chitauri wasnΒ΄t friendly and affectionate relationship.
