Description The Audi R10's ultra high-tech diesel powerplants (with the associated mega torque figure, hence the title) only rev to a fraction of what a typical petrol unit would do and so the noise of these cars is drowned out by every other motor out there. It truly is incredible - there are road cars out there that would be far louder than these race rockets...

The motion blur makes it feel like the photo is jumping out at me. The gorgeous colours help too. I like how the cars are in focus, but the rest isn't. Gives them a great sense of speed.

One of these days I'm gonna have to start liking this photo as much as everyone else seems to - I put it up because it was the only 'flying in formation' shot I got of the R10s...

Basically I added a radial blur centred on McNish's helmet so the cars appear vaguely in focus while everything else is a blur. Worked pretty well...

Thanks Olly! One would think, given how many people do love it, that I'd have warmed to it by now. Nup. Still not entirely convinced. I'll leave it here because I'm apparently the only one who doesn't really - and I mean really - like it...

Thanks very much! Yeah, trackside is a good place to be. Mind you, I like your gallery - Monaco is a great place for photographing cars...

Thanks very much! It's taken a while for this one to grow on me but I still seem to be the only one who doesn't really like it...

why dont you like it mate?

It's just not how I want it to look. Mind you, I don't know what I do want, so that's a bit of an issue...

well, a photographer is always his biggest critic!

Well you'd either be a crap photographer or completely up yourself if you weren't a harsh self-critic...

Why thank you! I'm glad this has been relatively popular; I couldn't decide what to do with it, editing-wise. Still not entirely convinced by it but I'll leave it until I come up with a better alternative...

I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or not, but I'll take the 'impressive' part of the equation!

Nice one, love how the radial blur gives both the impression of accelleration and still some yaw from the turn, just from the angle.

The title fits, also for the point thats where they most apply it.

Good point you make about application of that torque. Glad you like the image too.

Just don't 100% like it. I spent so long trying to come up with an effect I liked but didn't manage it. This is better than anything else I had in mind so I went with it. One day I'll find something that'll make it look a million bucks. I hope...

Thanks. I wasn't sure what to do with this one but it seems I've picked editing techniques well. I still wasn't happy with it when I uploaded it but maybe it's not all bad...
