Description
This is a quickie digital painting to get my technique down. 1 layer, no blending or smoothing and no eraser. I was trying to emulate a traditional painting style since I suck at traditional painting. The reference photo is stunning and belongs to `guitarjohnny .

Haha - the rhyming wasn't intentional. At least... I don't think so!

I had to put this in my favorites. Frogs and toads put together are my favorite. This is just stunning, so stunning that it's just outragous this is a painting!!
I'm waiting on a tutorial on how you did this frog, I would like to see the progress of how you did it and along with that a tutorial. If you don't mind of course! This is just amazing!
Again, great work! I really like it. It looks so photo realistic, it's not even funny!

Unfortunately I don't have any progress shots for this piece. It was something I did fairly quickly during lunch at work but if you take a peek in my Scraps you'll see lots of progress shots for some of my human portraits - I used the same techniques for this one.
Glad you like it.

Extremely realistic, I'd say it could almost pass off as an actual photograph if it wasn't for the tree branch underneath the frog. The frog itself, looks fully realistic, if I didn't know better, I would have thought you took the photograph of the frog and placed it in the picture.
Well done

Thanks so much, blackmutt.
I really was in two minds about how much detail to include. At one point, there was nothing but the frog but it looked a bit odd. Once I started working on the log, I decided quite quickly that I wanted the detail to be quite minimal and less realistic looking than the frog - he is the focus of the image after all.
Thanks again.

Awesome - it looks so much like the reference pic !!! Looking at your work I would love to try digital art some day - but would have to get my hands on a good program - any you can recommend?
For now I'll stick to my faithful mechanical pencil...
