Been dying to do some Fables fanart for some time now, ( [link] for those who aren't familiar with the bestest comic series evar) and my friend telling me about this different coloring style was my excuse to do up this little doodle of my favorite Ambrose (AKA Flycatcher)
he's like if Newt and Shaggy from scooby doo had a baby! er... in my head anyway XD still need to experiment with this photoshop painting style, I think, but I may try to do more with it in the future 
He's havin' Little Red Dirty Thoughts for some little red ridin' Hood. X3

Flycatcher's so awesome, but has such a sad story. Anyone else cry when they read his backstory in 1001 Nights of Snowfall?

Me too. Fly was always my favorite character plus he has a neat hat. His origin made me sad and I respect his character more (I always did but now I know what he went through). I think his wife was so beautiful and nice and sweet (I thought it was so cute how every time he'd go froggy she'd kiss him). She didn't deserve what happened to her neither did his kids and grand son.
I feel sad to think of how he's sort of mocked in Fabletown I mean he gets punished for eating flies (I don't see what the big deal is how he eats bugs, it wouldn't make me think he is a fable) and everybody knows it and I'm sure some laugh about it and no one but Snow knows how tragic his story is.

awwww well, in the later books you find out WHY he's punished for eating flies. The current storyline "The Good Prince" has me on edge waiting for the next single like woah!! if you haven't read it, I'm not gonna' give it away but WEE aww, Flycatcher love, man.

it involves putting down the shadow color first and then painting the midtones/highlights on top

yeah! This creates an effect similar to using open canvas, but you have a lot more control
and omg Fables ftw. I wasn't able to get december's issue D: I hope they have back issues when I get back to the city, or it's to ebay with me! ):<
