Description
Annihilator 'HWACHA'The Annihilator was a design that only same into service in the waning days of the Amaris Civil War. Essenitally the only forces that knew about it were the Royal Regiment of the SLDF that it was assigned to, and the Amaris forces that they crushed with it. Like the Atlas II, all known example left with Kerensky during the Exodus, which is why it made such a splash amongst intelligence agencies across the Inner Sphere and Comstar, when it first appeared with Zeta Battalion in late 3009.
Causing further confusion, the Dragoons had been gathering intel on the Inner Sphere for nearly 5 years at this point, so one would think they would have known what confusion it would create. And perhaps that was the intent. To further enhance their mystique, making them even more attractive to potential employers.
Regardless the why, the Annihilator would be a flagship mech among the Dragoons, with all the Houses scrambling to try to duplicate it, but with no success. This made it all the more confusing when the "Hwacha" showed up in the fire support lance of Barton's Battalion, in the 2nd McCarron's Armored Cavalry.
While it's path to the Capellan Confederation is still uncertain, how and where it came from is easier to extrapolate. During the Battle of Misery, 24 of Zeta's 40 Mechwarriors would meet their death, and the circumstances after did not allow for the Dragons to perform their usual thorough cleanup. Of the 5 Annihilator's in Zeta's TO&E entering Misery, 3 of them would be destoryed, with their pilots killed. While 2 were accounted for, but Audrey Bronson's machine was blown down into a chasm, and never reported recovered.
In the mid 3030s, it would reappear in the 2nd Big Mac, piloted by Lieutenant Baek Dong Soo. Extensively rebuilt, it verges on being a frankenmech.
All the Autocannons have been replaced with massive LRM racks. Each arm carries a 15 rack with a two ton magazine, and each side torso carries Doombud LRM20 racks lifted directly off an ARC-2W, with each fed by a 3 ton ammunition magazine. The Arm and CT mounted medium lasers remain, though the torso lasers appear to have been lowered for some reason. A fifth medium laser , apparently donated form a Vindicator finished out it's forward armament, with two more lasers covering it's rear arc.
The speed and armor appear to be untouched, meaning it's still glacially slow, and poorly protected for it's size. Still the switch to LRMs greatly compensate for both as it allows the Hwacha to rain death from much farther back. Keeping things cool are 23 heatsinks. The rest of Soo's lance comprise of a Stalker-H, Longbow and a Catapult, allowing for volleys of nearly 200 missiles per salvo.
With the Dragoon's long rivalry and general disdain of the MAC, seeing one of their prized Annihilators in their hands surely gives Colonel Wolf indigestion.
