Description
TRO 3145 Marik went on PDF release recently, this time instead of handling the cover work I jumped in on some interior work. Painting is my specialty, but the interior lineart assignments are the only way to design the mechs, so it was nice to have my turn at that.First up is the 55 ton Quasimodo, an offshoot of the Hunchback. With decent speed and jump jets it's quite mobile while it's battery of VSP lasers and triple strength myomers make it a deadly infighter. It's particularly specialized in taking on Particle Cannon carriers though, as it mounts a Blue Shield system. Pew pew.
3 Medium Variable Speed Pulse Lasers
2 Extended Range Medium Lasers
1 Extended Range Small Laser
5 Jump Jets
Triple-Strength Myomer
Blue Shield Particle Field Damper

You probably donΒ΄t know (or care, in that instance) that the german version of BattleTech named the Hunchback Quasimodo.
This is not the first time these translation atempts make their life harder than necessary.
Those idiots should have stuck to the original englisch names... especially considering that newer mechs also feature names from other languages (Pentesilea, Lao Hu, Tessen).

uh... ye..yeah... no homo....
Im a big fan of big robots, and "solid" machinery designs. you really match up to my "perfect mecha style" in my mind.

With double heat sinks it probably does ok, not to mention it's designed to run a little hot to activate it's TSM.

You actually put "Pew" on the lasers.
Dude, stop making Battletech awesome again.

So I take it PEW doesn't stand for Particle Energy Weapon?

I like it.
I like light-hunters almost as much as I like lights.
The fact that you pull off the "It's a Hunchback but not really" look so well is just icing on the cake.

I used key hunchback lines on the design, the same that you'd find Alex using to pull off the resemblance on the MWO version too. Little details that define the look of a mech are a nice tool.

Ha ha, I love the "pew pew" written on the lasers. Awesome mech, Shimmy!

They stole my idea! I designed a 'bigger nastier jumpier' hunchback ages ago named the quasimodo. . .though this uses alot more advanced tech.
Awesome artwork as always!

I can bet you're not the only person to modify the hunchback idea, or the only one to play on the quasimodo name. Everything has been done before in BT, no one is "the original".

The official German name for the hunchback back then was Quasimodo ever since....until they finally switched to keeping the English names.
Sadly the 'pew, pew' ain't in the TRO.

Okay, so this looks awesome. But something has been bugging me about mechs for a while - their hips are so wide they'd pretty much have to hop like a kangaroo or they'd fall over when they lifted their leg to take a step, no?

Shimmering-Sword In reply to MichaelPrescott [2013-06-28 00:29:27 +0000 UTC]
When they're stationary they look cool having a nice wide stance, but when running they'd angle their legs inward to help center their balance a bit. Something this battletech game also has is a giant multi ton gyro spinning in the mech that also links into the pilots sense of balance, so that also keeps it upright.

Oh true, I forgot about the gyro!

I wouldn't say "exactly" (that's an absolute), but yes, it's based on the Hunchback.

152mm(in case of kv-2. Or 203mm in case of kv-4/5, even through this version didn't make it to the game.. and obviously never existed) HE(or ordinary shell. I'm not sure which will cause more problems to shielded target) round, taken in mddle air can have quite an effect on opinions:\
+No one said that there wasn't "restart" of kv series with up to date tech somewhere in 3000's on some far away world.

I just wanted to leave a comment about how easy your style is to recognize. It's pretty amazing since I can just skim through all of the new deviations and just be like, "Yup that's ShimmeringSword" click*. I like how you use both hard contours yet still shade in a very, I'm not sure how to describe it, "smooth" way.
