Description TRO 3145 Marik went on PDF release recently, this time instead of handling the cover work I jumped in on some interior work. Painting is my specialty, but the interior lineart assignments are the only way to design the mechs, so it was nice to have my turn at that.

First up is the 55 ton Quasimodo, an offshoot of the Hunchback. With decent speed and jump jets it's quite mobile while it's battery of VSP lasers and triple strength myomers make it a deadly infighter. It's particularly specialized in taking on Particle Cannon carriers though, as it mounts a Blue Shield system. Pew pew.
3 Medium Variable Speed Pulse Lasers
2 Extended Range Medium Lasers
1 Extended Range Small Laser
5 Jump Jets
Triple-Strength Myomer
Blue Shield Particle Field Damper

It's a Swayback.

its a swayback that manages to preserve the 'bubble-o-doom' effect of the classic hunchie.. most don't. blue shield just makes it extra useful.

Munchie Hunchie, you mean.

Freakin' Level 3 tech; shoulda stayed in Solaris where it belonged.

A very specific swayback.

swayback is literally my fave variant of the hunch. It does turn the hunchy into a skirmisher rather than a sledgehammer, but in knife-fighting range, lasers work wonders just as surely as the ac/20.
you know how I love me my beam boats.
in MWO the swayback is my most successful mech, especially with judicious use of cover which the game demands.
I would totally run this mech, if I could and that shield system sounds pretty epic. the rules for it seem pretty balanced too.
great job. i love the lines you use in your mecha

In MWO blue shields would be extremely valuable with all the PPC boating. You could wreck a PPC stalker with it.

its been a few months since I've played MWO. have they made PPC's viable, then? because when I last left it Medium lasers were just about the most efficient weapon in the game point for point/ton for ton. I know Large Lasers were right behind em back then. If you were going to use PPC's it was more viable to use LL's instead.

this was because the damage fall-off and minimum range of PPC's was terrible, and they moved super slow compared to even large ordinance, which made them all but useless against fast-moving targets, and then there was the heat issues, where one needed to be exceedingly cautious in how you fired them, more-so than other energy weapons because even with 20+ heat sinks, having 2 PPC's would run you ragged super fast if you didnt wait for full dissipation of heat before your next salvo (even alternating them)
also, cold environs meant almost nothing, but hot map(s) jacked up your heat like crazy.

Yep, PPC's got a few buffs, though it's been this way for several months. What's it's done is tip the meta game over to sniping rather than brawling. PPC's aren't the only popular weapon, but between those, gauss, and large lasers you have a majority of sniper builds. I do just fine in my brawlers though, you just have to be smart.

the gameplay in MWO was immensely satisfying. once i get my gaming rig back online im def picking it up again.
I was nowhere near a great pilot, but i was learning, and had gotten to the point where i was not half bad.
id still like to find a clan/guild to join, if the game supports it yet, so that I could potentially have folks to run with now and again.
Finding random matches where it is not horribly one-sided because everyone is out for him/herself or where it isnt like 1 heavy 6 meds mediums and a light against 4 heavies, 1 med and 3 assaults.
also, i would have liked to see spotters and fire-support mechs more.

Aww, no Hellstars? Fine, taste GAUSS RIFLE.

Devastator, for when you absolutely have to kill something dead.

Devastator? Pfft...Not enough firepower.

Not enough firepower? Two gauss rifles, two PPCs, and four medium lasers on a max-armor 100-ton chassis? You go wash your mouth out, young man.

And not enough heatsinks to use both PPCs at once, much less all of that loadout.

Also, wrong gender. *grins*

Maddog3060 In reply to LizzyGibbs3D [2013-06-27 15:12:37 +0000 UTC]

What the flip are you talking about? It's got 14 DHS for a total heat dissipation of 28, more than enough for the primaries (Gauss Rifles and PPCs) and maintain a walking speed without any overheat. Add in the lasers and you can have some problems, but they're mainly for point-blank work where the main guns don't function so well anyway.

Try actually looking up what you're talking about first.

B: A female that likes Battletech? Impossibru!

Love how the thing looks, but man I haven't played in years, don't know what half the crap on that damn thing does.

Shimmering-Sword In reply to LoneStranger [2013-06-27 03:26:48 +0000 UTC]

Haha yeah over time quite a bit of new equipment has come around, and due to the "it's been done before" nature of most load outs you start to see unique stuff like this.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LoneStranger In reply to Shimmering-Sword [2013-06-27 03:31:57 +0000 UTC]

Well there's a reason why it's been done before, the crap works.

Although I would find it interesting to see a Hunchback (or hunchback alike) with a PPC in place of the AC/20. That or a Hunchback IIC with two ER PPCs instead of the Ultra 20s.

Shimmering-Sword In reply to LoneStranger [2013-06-27 03:40:04 +0000 UTC]

The reason you don't get that is because another mech is already doing it (though I can't specifically name them). Sure a Hunchie could be refit for PPCs but that starts to water down it's flavor.
