Correct, Chicago indeed. It's Loyola (on the Red Line).

I'm usually not the urban setting fan...but this has great composition and i love the warm colors with the offset of blue.

The-Egg [2007-05-20 15:37:29 +0000 UTC]

nice, the perspective on this is just great. might i ask where you shot it? my only criticism would be that the sky on the right looks a little too bright, if you took the burn tool to it in photoshop with it set to highlights you could propably balance it out though. either way

BitterGrapes In reply to The-Egg [2007-05-22 14:30:45 +0000 UTC]

Thanks very much for the favorite and for the critique. Greatly appreciated.
Do you mean along the very edge of the roof of the train station, or on the right side of the sky in general?

The-Egg In reply to BitterGrapes [2007-06-09 19:56:37 +0000 UTC]

sorry for the late reply, haven't been on DA as much as i'd like the last couple weeks i was referring to the sky, it's a little brighter and more cyan-toned then over on the left

i like the composition on this..that curve is lovely! i also like the fact that everything seems to be the same golden colour, with exception to that big blue stripe in the station!

I really love that station. I've lived in Chicago for most of my life, and have at least one story for every train stop. That one has many. Thank you, I'm glad you like this.

wow you got a train? thats cool. all we have is a light rail that hits cars who dont know how to not make left turns.

The blue streak gives this a good contrast. My english is a little faulty today, so I'll just say, "COOLZ!!".

haha keep em coming.

BitterGrapes In reply to srj-os [2007-05-01 02:38:03 +0000 UTC]

Yes, we got a ton of train lines...all of them color coded: red, blue, yellow, purple, orange, green, brown and pink. Thank you for the kindness!

This would make a really nice lithoprint as a piece of Americana befitting a Currier and Ives retrospective.

Ok, I'm weird here but the first thing I think about is westerns movies - everybody's waiting for the train with the bad guys to arrive and has gone to hide indoors. The cameras is the "hero's" eyes as he stands alone and the clock is ticking....
And I must compliment you on the cropping and the whole composition - nice nice nice

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BitterGrapes In reply to Lajos-Toth [2007-04-23 06:22:17 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much and thank you for the favorite.
I actually shot that scene several times over two days until the right composition appeared. Maybe it's the colors that remind you of a western?

BTW, speaking of westerns, did you ever used to watch the show, "Gunsmoke"?

OnederBred [2007-04-20 00:11:23 +0000 UTC]

The curves are very sexy in this piece. The very calm colors can be very relaxing while waiting for the train after a ruff day. I welcome days like this...

BitterGrapes In reply to OnederBred [2007-04-23 07:04:49 +0000 UTC]

Thank you brother. Waiting for trains is like a mantra to me now. Today was a BEAUTIFUL day in Chicago. I just got back into town from MO. I managed to get some decent evening shots while waiting on trains and buses.
